Patent number: 12198812Abstract: A system and method to identify, convey, and reduce the risk of hip dislocations following hip replacement surgery. Preoperative images are used to identify the pelvic tilt of a patient while the patient is in a sitting position, a standing position, and a supine position. Based on the pelvic tilt and pelvic mobility depicted in the preoperative images, the system can identify a quantitative and/or qualitative risk of hip dislocation when the patient is seated, standing, and lying. During surgery, an intraoperative image can confirm the acetabular cup orientation once implanted and the system can determine the risk of hip dislocation when patient is in the supine position. The system can also extrapolate the dislocation risk when the patient is seated and standing based on acetabular cup position and orientation depicted in the intraoperative image.Type: GrantFiled: July 20, 2021Date of Patent: January 14, 2025Assignee: DEPUY SYNTHES PRODUCTS, INC.Inventors: Charles DeCook, Andrew J. Patent number: 12186025Abstract: A C-arm, or a mobile intensifier device, is one example of a medical imaging device that is based on X-ray technology. Because a C-arm device can display high-resolution X-ray images in real time, a physician can monitor progress at any time during an operation, and thus can take appropriate actions based on the displayed images. Monitoring the images, however, is often challenging during certain procedures, for instance during procedures in which attention must be paid to the patient's anatomy as well as a medical imaging device display. In an example, a surgical instrument assembly includes a processor, a surgical instrument configured to operate on an anatomical structure, and a display coupled to the processor and attached to the surgical instrument. The display can be configured to display visual information comprising X-ray images generated by a medical imaging device.Type: GrantFiled: August 19, 2021Date of Patent: January 7, 2025Assignee: DePuy Synthes Products, Inc.Inventors: Mario Mata, Glen Pierson, George Mikhail, Scott Larsen

Patent number: 12185957Abstract: A method and instrumentation for performing a patellofemoral arthroplasty orthopaedic procedure includes coupling an anterior cutting block to a femur of a patient such that the cutting block references local anatomy of the femur. The anterior cutting block is used to perform a number of bone cuts to establish a trochlear cavity in the femur. The trochlear cavity is formed such that a trochlear prosthesis may be inset into the cavity and substantially flush with the surrounding cartilage. A finishing burring guide and burr bit may be used to detail the shape and/or size of the trochlear cavity. Additionally, a trochlear drill guide may be used to facilitate establishing peg holes in the patient's femur to receive corresponding pegs of the trochlear prosthesis.Type: GrantFiled: May 11, 2021Date of Patent: January 7, 2025Assignee: DEPUY SYNTHES PRODUCTS, INC.Inventors: Lisa Robertson, Daniel Auger, Matthew Wallace, Jack Farr, II, Scott Brown, Dimitri Sokolov

Patent number: 12150686Abstract: An orthopedic impacting tool including a motor, an energy storage chamber, a striker, and an anvil. The motor stores energy in the energy storage chamber and then releases it, causing the striker to apply a controlled force on an adapter to create a precise impact for use in a surgical setting. The tool may further comprise a combination anvil and adapter. Alternatively, the tool may comprise a gas spring assembly system for generating an impact force. The tool further allows forward or backward impacting for expanding the size or volume of the opening or for facilitating removal of a broach, implant, or other surgical implement from the opening. An energy adjustment control of the tool allows a surgeon to increase or decrease the impact energy. A light source and hand grips improve ease of operation of the tool.Type: GrantFiled: November 5, 2021Date of Patent: November 26, 2024Assignee: DePuy Synthes Products, Inc.Inventor: Christopher Pedicini
