  • Patent number: 5091556
Abstract: A process for preparing carbamates is disclosed, in which:a stoichiometric or higher-than-stoichiometric amount of an alkyl carbonate or a cycloalkyl carbonate is reacted with an aliphatic, cycloaliphatic or aromatic amine, in a first reaction step, by operating in the presence of a carbamation catalyst, in order to produce a mixture of a carbamate and an urea, the urea contained in the reaction product from the first process step is reacted with carbonate, in a second reaction step, in order to produce the corresponding carbamate, andthe reaction mixture coming from the second process step is submitted to treatments in order to recover the carbamate. The process makes it possible high yields and high values of selectivity to the useful reaction product to be obtained.

  • Patent number: 5089661
Abstract: A new process is described for the preparation of a 2-aryl-propionic acid, such as for instance 2-[4-(2-methyl-propyl)phenyl]propionic or 2-(6'-methoxy-2'-naphthyl)propionic acid, through hydrogenation of a complex salt which consists of the mono- and/or di-valent anion of the corresponding 2-hydroxy-2-aryl-propionic acid, a di- or tri-valent metal cation, such as for instance Al(+3), Fe(+3), Zn(+2), or Mg(+2), and optionally other anonic or neutral ligands. This new process is particularly advantageous in that the starting salt can be obtained directly via electrocarboxylation of the corresponding aryl methyl ketone, e.g. 4-(2-methyl-propyl)acetophenone or (6-methoxy-2-naphthyl) methyl ketone, with metal anodes which dissolve during the electrolysis.

  • Patent number: 5084147
Abstract: A process of oxidation or reduction of organic substrates by an indirect electrochemical route is described. During oxidation, the electrochemical stage produces a metallic oxide having higher valence such as RuO.sub.2, NiOOH, which is applied to an inert conductor support. The supported metallic oxide of higher valence is separated from the aqueous electrolyte and is then placed in contact with the pure organic material to be reacted on. The metallic oxide in this manner is reduced to a lower valence and is subjected to a new electrochemical oxidation after the residues of the organic material are removed. The process consists of a cyclic repetition of these stages. The process of reduction of organic substrates is analogous and is carried out by means of the hydrogen of hydrides formed through a cathodic charge by electrolysis of an aqueous solution.

  • Patent number: 5076813
Abstract: A high-energy-content fuel composition, for controlled-ignition internal combustion engines, contains quadricyclane (tetracyclo-[2.2.1.0-(2,6).0-3,5]-heptane), for which a new synthesis method is proposed. The use of the quadricyclane-containing fuel composition makes it possible a larger amount of energy to be available per each fuel volume unit, and favorably modifies the combustion kinetics in controlled-ignition internal combustion engines.

  • Patent number: 5070062
Abstract: An oxychlorination catalyst is described which is constituted by porous particles of microspheroidal, or at least microcrystalline, alumina impregnated with cupric chloride and with the chloride of an alkali or alkaline-earth metal, in which the copper and the alklai or alkaline-earth metal are uniformly distributed over the entire surface area of the particles. The method for the preparation of the catalyst is also described. The catalyst enables oxychlorination of ethylene to dichloroethane to be achieved with improved fluodynamic behavior of the fluidized catalytic bed and with improved conversions and selectivity towards the useful reaction product.

  • Patent number: 5021338
Abstract: An enzyme system for hydrolysis of protein material from plant and animal sources is obtained by extracting germinated sorghum seeds. The enzyme system contains a proteolytic component active on intact proteins and large peptides at an optimum pH of 3.2 to 4.2 and a peptidase component active on small peptides at an optimum pH of 4.5 to 6.5. A protein hydrolyzate having an average molecular weight within a selected range can be obtained by varying the pH so as to depress activity of the proteolytic component or the peptidase component. The protein hydrolysates which are obtained are characterized by the absence of bitter taste. Furthermore, by suitably adjusting the enzyme concentration in the reaction medium, the temperature and the hydrolysis time, protein hydrolyzates with an average molecular weight lower than 700 and a low percentage of free amino acids can be obtained.
