Abstract: A hemocompatible composition comprising a polymer containing at least one pharmacologic material chemically bonded to a polymer backbone. Such compositions may be obtained by reacting a pharmacologic material with a compound containing a polymerizable group (e.g., an acyl halide) and thereafter either copolymerizing the acylated material with one or more copolymerizable monomers or first irradiating a backbone polymer and thereafter grafting the acylated pharmacologic material onto the irradiated polymer. The resulting products are hemocompatible and may be used in the manufacture of medical devices which come in contact with blood or other bodily fluids. The advantage of chemically bonded pharmacologic materials is that they are not leached out and retain their pharmaceutical effectiveness for a long period of time. The compositions may contain one or more additional pharmacologic materials which are physically admixed with polymers containing bonded pharmacologic materials.

Abstract: Acidic and salt impurities are removed from a condensed phase obtained from dimethyl carbonate synthesis by obtaining the condensed phase from the effluent of a reactor in which carbon monoxide, oxygen and methanol are reacted to form dimethyl carbonate, the condensed phase containing acid and salt impurities, and partially evaporating the condensed phase in an evaporator thereby preparing an evaporated stream substantially free of impurities and a residual bottom stream.
Abstract: Dialkyl carbonate is prepared by reacting an alcohol with a gaseous mixture of carbon monoxide and oxygen in the presence of cuprous chloride as catalyst and hydrochloric acid as in situ regenerator of the catalyst.
Abstract: Process for the preparation of cumene by the alkylation of benzene with propylene, catalyzed by zeolite Beta into which certain quantities of suitable alkaline, alkaline-earth or metallic cations have been introduced by ion exchange.
Abstract: Method for removing the acidic impurities contained in a vaporized stream consisting of an alkanol, an alkyl carbonate, water and still other organic species in minor amounts, which method consists in sending said stream to a solid adsorption reactor comprising alumina or activated charcoal.
Abstract: An amorphous, micro/mesoporous silica-alumina gel with controlled pore size, having a surface area of at least 500 m.sup.2 /g and with a molar ratio of SiO.sub.2 :Al.sub.2 O.sub.3 of at least 30:1, is prepared by hydrolysing and causing a tetra-alkyl ammonium hydroxide, an aluminum trialkoxide, and a tetra-alkyl orthosilicate to gelate, by operating at a temperature equal to, or higher than, the boiling temperature, under atmospheric pressure, of any alcohols which are developed as a by-product from said hydrolysis reaction, without said alcohols being removed, or being substantially removed, from the reaction media; and the so produced gel being dried and fired. So obtained gel is an active catalyst in hydrocarbon conversion reactions, in particular in light olefin isomerization and oligomerization processes, e.g., in propylene oligomerization processes to yield useful liquid hydrocarbons for gasoline and jet fuel formulation.
Abstract: A linear copolyester is prepared by polycondensation of an aromatic bicarboxylic acid with an alkylene glycol and with a carboxyphosphinic acid or anhydride which produces monomeric units having the formula: ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 is an alkylene or phenyl radical and R.sub.2 is an alkyl or phenyl radical. This copolyester can be used as a flame-retardant additive for organic polymers.

Abstract: An ATM switching system architecture of a switch fabric-type is built of, a plurality of ATM switch element circuits and routing table circuits for each physical connection to/from the switch fabric. A shared pool of memory is employed to eliminate the need to provide memory at every crosspoint. Each routing table maintains a marked interrupt linked list for storing information about which ones of its virtual channels are experiencing congestion. This linked list is available to a processor in the external workstation to alert the processor when a congestion condition exists in one of the virtual channels. The switch element circuit typically has up to eight 4-bit-wide nibble inputs and eight 4-bit-wide nibble outputs and is capable of connecting cells received at any of its inputs to any of its outputs, based on the information in a routing tag uniquely associated with each cell.
