  • Patent number: 10627292
Abstract: Indoor gunshot detection analysis is performed in the presence of a fire alarm. A gunshot sensor, which includes infrared and acoustic sensors, is used to detect an infrared pulse, whether the pulse originates from a muzzle flash or a fire alarm strobe. The infrared pulse is determined to correspond to a strobe occurrence. An evaluation determines that a gunshot did or did not occur based on the strobe occurrence. In another embodiment, a gunshot is detected while the fire alarm is occurring, where the gunshot occurs at a different time from the strobe occurrence and can be sensed by the acoustic sensor. A fire alarm strobe frequency and duration are determined, and further strobe occurrences are edited. Editing detection edits out a sensing time window by the infrared sensor. When the strobe stops, editing is eliminated, but if the strobe restarts, then editing is resumed.

  • Patent number: 10630137
Abstract: A system and method are provided for hybrid electric internal combustion engine applications in which a motor-generator, a narrow switchable coupling and a torque transfer unit therebetween are arranged and positioned in the constrained environment at the front of an engine in applications such as commercial vehicles, off-road vehicles and stationary engine installations. The motor-generator is preferably positioned laterally offset from the switchable coupling, which is co-axially-arranged with the front end of the engine crankshaft. The switchable coupling is an integrated unit in which a crankshaft vibration damper, an engine accessory drive pulley and a disengageable clutch overlap such that the axial depth of the clutch-pulley-damper unit is nearly the same as a conventional belt drive pulley and engine damper. The front end motor-generator system includes an electrical energy store that receives electrical energy generated by the motor-generator when the coupling is engaged.

  • Publication number: 20200113746
Abstract: Various methods for detecting moisture in briefs compatible with high volume manufacturing are disclosed. The embodiments herein facilitate protection of the method of adding moisture sensing to a diaper, but could also be used to add sensing to pads and bandages. The primary design intent is optimal moisture detection and low per unit cost. Electrodes within a garment measure electrical properties of the electrodes to determine if the item has contacted moisture. The target moisture is urine, however, other sources and types of moisture can also be sensed. Additional analysis capabilities can be added by selecting particular electrodes or add materials that may react with chemical components of the moisture. Applications of the research Include monitor of incontinence using smart brief (e.g. diaper); monitor perspiration, bleeding, or failure of the protective garment; and monitoring exposure of an item to moisture, including but not limited to inanimate items.

  • Patent number: 10623014
Abstract: Provided, among other things, is an apparatus that converts a signal from one sampling domain to another, and which includes: an input line for accepting an input signal and a processing branch. The processing branch includes a branch input coupled to the input line for inputting data samples that are discrete in time and in value, a quadrature downconverter, a first and second lowpass filter, a first and second polynomial interpolator, and a rotation matrix multiplier that provides a phase rotation. The processing branch generates data samples at a sampling interval that differs from the sampling interval associated with the signal provided to the branch input, e.g., with the difference in the sampling intervals depending on fluctuations in the output period of a local oscillator. Certain embodiments include multiple such processing branches, e.g., operating on different frequency bands of the input signal.

  • Patent number: 10623229
Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed and include a method that includes adding a training symbol prefix to an OFDM symbol frame, the prefix including a plurality of training symbols, each including N sub-symbol fields. N/2 of the sub-symbol fields are zero valued, and N/2 of the sub-symbol fields carry corresponding symbols of a N/2 sub-symbol pseudo random training symbol. A first half of the pseudo random training symbol is symmetrical to a second half of the pseudo random training symbol. An OFDM N-sub-carrier transmission carries the prefix as signal power on a first N/2 of its N sub-carriers and suppresses signal power on a second N/2 of the sub-carriers. The first N/2 and second N/2 sub-carriers alternate in the frequency domain.
