  • Publication number: 20170373771
Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for satellite noise and interference calibration using satellite terminal measurements. In one implementation, a method includes partitioning a satellite network into a first partition including a plurality of terminals and a plurality of inroute frequency channels (IFCs); instructing the plurality of terminals of the partition to measure the SINR of the plurality of IFCs; processing the plurality of SINR measurements to compute normalized IFC measurements for each of the plurality of terminals; processing the normalized IFC measurements for each terminal to compute final calibrated IFC SINR offsets for each IFC of the partition; and normalizing the final calibrated IFC SINR offsets with respect to a lowest SINR offset IFC. The normalized final calibration offsets may be made available to each of the satellite terminals. During subsequent operation, the satellite terminals may consider the amount of interference present in an IFC before switching to the channel.

  • Patent number: 9851227
Abstract: In order to mitigate a need for reprogramming tire pressure sensors after tire rotation, tire change, etc., all sensors on a vehicle are preprogrammed with a lookup table that correlates modulation frequency to axle and wheel end positions on the vehicle. Dual antenna initiator coils are mounted to a vehicle such that each wheel end has one directional antenna directed toward it. Each initiator coil is programmed to modulate its transmission frequency by a predetermined modulation frequency such that each antenna transmits using a different modulation frequency. Each sensor receives a modulated signal, identifies the modulation frequency, and performs a table lookup to determine its axle and wheel end location. The sensor transmits its identified wheel end and axle location to a controller unit along with tire pressure status information for its wheel.

  • Patent number: 9854544
Abstract: Power spectral density in an aeronautical satellite communication system is controlled through the use of adaptive inroute selection and spreading. Once a communication session has been established between the aircraft and the satellite, environmental conditions and aircraft conditions are monitored to detect events capable of affecting transmit/receive properties during the communication session. A maximum allowable transmission output is determined based, at least in part, on governmental regulations and the conditions being monitored. One or more transmit parameters are adjusted during the time interval in order to maintain transmission output power of the aircraft terminal below the maximum allowable transmission output power.

  • Patent number: 9852076
Abstract: Efficient processing of user data read requests in a deduplicated data storage system places the metadata for most frequently requested data in data structures and locations in the system hierarchy where the metadata will be most rapidly available. The total amount of such metadata makes storing all of the metadata in high speed memory expensive, and the system and method described uses both the temporal and the spatial characteristics of the user system activity in any epoch to adjust the contents of metadata cache so as to respond to the dynamics of a multi user or multi-application environment where the storage system is not made aware of the time changing mix of operations except by observation of the individual requests. A history record is used to promote metadata from the slow memory to the fast memory, and a process selection may be adjusted based on the address-space activity.

  • Patent number: 9848295
Abstract: A device to be disposed on a subject for determining whether the subject is inside or outside of a containment zone defined by a containment perimeter. There is a positioning unit for generating position data, including satellite positioning data, of the subject; the position data. There is a processor unit, in communication with the positioning unit, configured to receive data from a memory representing a plurality of line segments forming the containment perimeter and obtain the position data of the subject. The processor casts a ray from the position of the subject toward a line segment of the containment perimeter and determines the number of line segments that are intersected by the ray. The processor determines from number of line segments intersected by the ray, if the subject is inside the containment zone or outside of the containment zone.
