  • Patent number: 9597570
Abstract: In response to detecting a user hitting a pitched ball, a batting simulator system is configured to provide data such as batting average, slugging percentage, and exit ball velocity and distance in real-time. Furthermore, the batting simulator system can both display a trajectory of the hit ball in a virtual stadium and provide the results of the ball hit (e.g., groundout, double, home run, etc.) in real-time. The batting simulator system can store and later output these results to the player to allow the player or a coach to identify hitting tendencies and optimize swing mechanics over the course of one hitting session or over an entire season.

  • Patent number: 9601892
Abstract: Two or more lasers or other temperature sensitive optical devices can be disposed in an operating environment, for example in a common enclosure exposed to the environment. The environment can have a temperature that fluctuates, for example in connection with random events, weather, seasons, etc. Each laser's temperature can track the temperature of the environment in steps, with each laser following a distinct temperature track. The lasers can alternate outputting light into a wavelength division multiplexing channel. For example, during one timeframe, one laser can provide an optical communication signal having a wavelength complying with a wavelength division multiplexing criterion. During another timeframe, the other laser can provide an optical signal having substantially the same wavelength. Operating a laser at an elevated temperature can shorten laser lifetime.

  • Patent number: 9595183
Abstract: A system and method for placement of sensors for sensing hazardous substances released from a plurality of hazard points. A processor identifies a location of a hazard point, a fence line of the plant-site, and a toxic level of concern (LOC) for the hazardous substance. The processor calculates a minimum amount of the hazardous substance (Q) for which a concentration at a centerline of a plume carrying the hazardous substance reaches the toxic LOC at the fenceline, and simulates a release of the hazardous substance in the calculated amount Q from the hazard point. The processor further calculates a pair of sensor locations where the concentration of the plume is equal to the minimum detectable concentration level of sensor based on the simulated release. The pair of sensor locations is then output by the processor.
