  • Patent number: 4171142
Abstract: A leak repair clamp for pipe and pipe flanges includes a frame having a plurality of segments positionable in end-to-end relation around the pipe. Each segment includes spaced parallel annular lips flaring from its inner periphery with each lip being an integral part of the segment and having a bent tip portion extending toward the matching oppositely positioned tip portion of the opposite lip. A connecting means is used to connect the segments together in end-to-end relation, the lips extending from the segments to thus form an annular recess around the pipe when the segments are connected. An access means is provided in the frame to permit passage of a liquid sealant into the recess and the lips direct flow of the sealant into direct contact with the pipe to form a self-energizing seal between the lips and pipe.

  • Patent number: 4144909
Abstract: In one exemplar embodiment, a combination closure conduit and closure plug are provided for closing a side opening into a pipeline. The closure stub or conduit is attached to the pipeline around the side opening and has an interior annular shoulder. A closure plug adapted for insertion into the conduit has a projecting peripheral shoulder and provides a first sealing means. A peripheral sealing means disposed on the plug ahead of the peripheral shoulder provides a second means of sealing the plug to the conduit. Locking screws engage a peripheral surface on the top of the plug to lock the plug in place. A by-pass valve is carried by the plug to allow fluid communication through the plug during insertion of the plug.

  • Patent number: 4133351
Abstract: In one exemplar embodiment, a method and apparatus are provided for sealing leaks which occur at the flanged connections of pipelines wherein a wire is wrapped about the upper surface of the flange connecting bolts for filling the gap between the flanges and above the bolts, an injection valve means is installed for relieving pressure from inside the gap while the wire is being wrapped and for injecting a sealant to the interior of the gap beneath the wire wrap, and a sealant is provided for filling the gap beneath the wire wrap for stopping the leak and combining with the wire wrap to provide a permanent repair for the leak.

  • Patent number: 4100929
Abstract: A new and improved method and apparatus for plugging a branch line connection from a main line connection includes welding a suitable flange connection to the main line across from said branch line, tapping the walls of the main line from the flange connection to the branch line and positioning a plugging member adjacent and in said branch line wherein the plugging member seals against the inner surface of the main line which is normally smooth and also enables the pressure in the main line to further enhance the seal by enabling the pressure from the main line to exert pressure on the rear of the plug to seal against such main line immediately adjacent and around the periphery of the opening of the branch line.

  • Patent number: 4049296
Abstract: In one exemplar embodiment, a leak repair clamp for pipe and pipe flanges, valve bonnet flanges and the like is disclosed having a divided clamp frame positionable about the pipe or pipe flange. The divided clamp frame has a pair of spaced parallel channels disposed about its inner periphery. Deformable self-energizing seal members are disposed in each of the channels and having a flexible sealing tip portion radially extending from the inner periphery of the clamp frames. A retaining member is disposed in each of the channels adjacent the seal member for engaging the seal and the channel and retaining the seal member fixed within the channel.
