Abstract: A signal processing method includes sampling an analog signal, which has a spectral density defining one or more bands, to produce a digitized signal. A spectral transform of the digitized signal is expressed as a matrix multiplied by a vector, wherein the vector includes multiple elements that represent the spectral density of the analog signal as a function of frequency within respective spectral slices. Indices of a subset of the elements of the vector, in which the spectral density is concentrated, is determined. The analog signal is reconstructed from the digitized signal using the subset of the elements of the vector and a corresponding subset of columns of the matrix having the indices.

Abstract: A method for electrochemical etching of a semiconductor material using positive potential dissolution (PPD) in solutions that do not contain hydrofluoric acid (HF-free solutions). The method includes immersing an as-cut semiconductor material in an etching solution, and positive biasing at atypically highly positive (anodic) potentials, thereby significantly increasing the value of the anodic current density (measured as A/cm2) of the semiconductor material. The application of positive biasing at atypically highly positive (anodic) potentials, is combined with specifically controlling and directing illumination on the semiconductor material surface contacted and wetted by the etching solution. This is done for a necessary and sufficient period of time to enable a positive synergistic effect on the rate and extent of etching of the semiconductor material therefrom.

Abstract: An array of uncooled infrared sensors based on a micro-machined temperature sensitive MOS transistor. The sensor array is fabricated using a commercial CMOS process on SOI wafers, followed by backside silicon dry etching for each sensor pixel. Active sensor pixels may include either, an integrator and buffer, or simply the sensing transistor, serving also as the selection device. The transistor bias controls the selected device and the sensitivity of the sensor. PMOS transistors and switched operation are used for noise minimization.

Abstract: A mirror magnetic field forming device is disposed in each discharge unit space (or discharge cell) of a plasma display panel. The mirror magnetic field forming device is formed by providing magnetic members for respective two bulkheads facing each other through the discharge unit space. The two magnetic members form a mirror magnetic field in the discharge unit space. The mirror magnetic field prevents electrons from colliding with the bulkheads and disappearing.

Abstract: System and method for visually tracking a target object silhouette in a plurality of video frames under very general conditions. The tracker does not make any assumption about the object or the scene. The tracker works by approximating, in each frame, a PDF (probability distribution function) of the target's bitmap and then estimating the maximum a posteriori bitmap. The PDF is marginalized over all possible motions per pixel, thus avoiding the stage in which optical flow is determined. This is an advantage over other general-context trackers that do not use the motion cue at all or rely on the error-prone calculation of optical flow. Using a Gibbs distribution with a first order neighborhood system yields a bitmap PDF whose maximization may be transformed into that of a quadratic pseudo-Boolean function, the maximum of which is approximated via a reduction to a maximum-flow problem.

Abstract: A method, for electronic face recognition using geodesic representations, of processing such a geodesic representation of a face having a mouth and being able to adopt open-mouthed or closed mouth states, so that the electronic recognition works regardless of whether the mouth in the representation is open or closed. The method comprises: identifying a mouth region within a face; applying a topological constraint to the mouth region, and representing the face with the constraint. The topological constraint is chosen to render the geodesic representation invariant to the mouth state being open or closed.
