  • Patent number: 5437889
Abstract: A shield, such as an upstanding cylindrical partition, is mounted adjacent to an air source, such as an air distribution plate/screen of a Wurster system processor, whereby the open upper end of the partition is generally horizontally registered with and disposed about the upper extremity of an associated spray nozzle. The open lower end of the inner cylindrical partition is generally sealed relative to the air distribution plate/screen and operative to receive air upwardly therethrough for subsequent passing through the inner partition about the spray nozzle. The upper end of the inner tubular partition shields the initial spray pattern discharged from the spray nozzle and prevents the premature entrance of particles moving into the spray nozzle area.

  • Patent number: 5427166
Abstract: The weight, space and convenience advantages of a run-flat tire can be substantial. This is especially true for the urban-economy car or family type vehicles which have limited space available for a spare tire and inadequate space for the removed flat tire. These vehicles also have higher comfort requirements that must be addressed. The mini-spare solution to the flat tire problem has very limited performance capabilities. Other solutions include major modifications in the rim and/or the tire, which are not cost effective or compatible with a conversion to standard tires on the same rims. The run-flat tire of this invention includes thickened sidewall portions, a belt package with a cap ply, lower sidewall rubber support portions, a specially designed bead seat area with a rim seat ply and three carcass layers. The classical problems of inflated vs. deflated performance tradeoffs in ride comfort, handling, radial stiffness and endurance of the tire are substantially improved.

  • Patent number: 5426697
Abstract: The single transformer generally used in a duplex coupler for coupling local telecommunication equipment, such as a modem, to a telephone line may be replaced by a number of transformers or other suitable forms of DC isolation device which then enables each transformer and its associated circuit network to be specifically tailored to optimize the operation of the coupler system. The transmit output path 3 is connected to a transformer 2 having a center-tapped secondary winding 11 which is connected across the communication line 4. A second transformer 5 has its primary winding connected between the center-tap and the line 4, and its secondary winding coupled to the receive input 6. By optimizing each transformer the intermodulation products and other unwanted products are reduced. The coupler system may be miniaturized and the line matching components incorporated in or selected by a specific line cord designed to match the network characteristics.

  • Patent number: 5421387
Abstract: An asymmetrical tread for a tire has a midcircumferential plane and an inner side and an outer side when mounted on a vehicle wheel. The longitudinally extending ribs in a central segment have substantially equal surface contact areas and their contact surface ratios sequentially decrease when taken from the outer side to the inner side of the tread. Two lateral ribs have equal surface contact areas with the first lateral rib at the innermost lateral segment having a contact surface ratio less than the second lateral rib at the outermost later segment of the tread. The tread rubber volume is equal on the two sides of the midcircumferential plane of the tread. The improvements in performance compared to other asymmetrical tire treads is realized in maintaining good straight ahead driving features for the tread of this invention. Improvements in tire performance for vehicle turn maneuvers and for unsymmetrical vehicle wheel camber are realized.
