  • Patent number: 3999424
Abstract: The point, lower-end region, and shaft of a penetrometer tube set are respectively connected to lower, intermediate, and upper members of a sensor head. A cap member which slidably receives the upper member is struck by the penetrometer anvil to drive the tube set into the ground. The lower and intermediate members are respectively slidable in the intermediate and upper members, and upper, intermediate, and lower strain gauges are provided between the members to produce outputs corresponding to the forces exerted by them on each other. A group of pawls can lock the upper member onto the shaft of the tube set and the intermediate member is limitedly axially displaceable in the cap member so that the intermediate strain gauge is compressed on pulling-out of the tube set.

  • Patent number: 3997885
Abstract: The invention comes within the field of digital memories having thin magnetic layers, for the propagation of domains. This memory is constituted by an anisotropic linear magnetic channel which is applied on a glass substrate and which has a single shift conductor in a Greek border configuration superimposed on it. Areas made of soft magnetic material are provided at the intersection between the channels and the conductors. According to such a structure, high-capacity shift registers which are of relatively rapid access (one shift step lasts about 500 nanoseconds) can be produced.

  • Patent number: 3996575
Abstract: Reading unit for a shift register according to the thin magnetic layer technology. For reading, the magnetoresistance effect is used. According to the invention, an electrical conductor, which overhangs the propagation channel is interrupted at the central point of the reading unit and a hard magnetic layer whose magnetization is directed perpendicularly to the easy axis of the propagation channel is deposited at that point. That layer tends to align the magnetization of the channel with its own magnetization and makes it possible, in co-operation with an energizing conductor, to obtain a difference in the resistance of the reading unit between the two states of a digital data item.

  • Patent number: 3992983
Abstract: A process for preparing a tea extract is disclosed in which a heated aqueous tea slurry is confined in a first zone separated from a second zone by a liquid-pervious barrier, a body of extraction liquid is maintained in said second zone to permit diffusion of tea solubles from the tea slurry into the extraction liquid, the volume of the slurry being 0.5 to 2.5 times the volume of the body of extraction liquid. After a suitable contact time, the extraction liquid and slurry are removed from the zones and the tea solubles diffused in the extraction liquid and present in the slurry ultimately are combined, intervening processing including, for example, stripping and removing of aromatic volatiles before a final extract product is provided. Apparatus for carrying out the process also is disclosed.
