Abstract: The present invention provides novel microfluidic devices and methods that are useful for performing high-throughput screening assays and combinatorial chemistry. The invention provides for aqueous based emulsions containing uniquely labeled cells, enzymes, nucleic acids, etc., wherein the emulsions further comprise primers, labels, probes, and other reactants. An oil based carrier-fluid envelopes the emulsion library on a microfluidic device, such that a continuous channel provides for flow of the immiscible fluids, to accomplish pooling, coalescing, mixing, sorting, detection, etc., of the emulsion library.

  • Publication number: 20140322056
Abstract: A vacuum pump and a method of controlling the operation of the vacuum pump employ an expansion chamber to reduce a pressure differential between an inlet side and an exhaust side of the pump. In particular, the expansion chamber may be used to rid the pump head of the pump of a pocket of relatively high pressure fluid that accumulates behind a poppet valve disposed over an exhaust opening. The pump itself may be used to create a level of vacuum pressure in the expansion chamber. Alternatively, a piston or diaphragm may be used. In either case, the expansion chamber is isolated from the ambient and interior of the pump head once a level of vacuum pressure is produced in the expansion chamber. Then the exhaust outlet is redirected from the ambient to the interior of the expansion chamber.

  • Publication number: 20140322976
Abstract: A shielded, or coaxial, electrical cable assembly including a female shield connected to the outer conductor, or shield, of the cable. The female shield is configured to mate with a male shield to maintain the continuity of the shield in a connection. The male shield includes a flexible protrusion that is designed to align with and snap into an aperture defined in the female shield, thereby providing a mechanical connection between the male and female shields. The male shield also defines a flexible contact adapted to closely engage an interior surface of the female exterior shield, thereby providing an electrical connection between the male and female shields. The flexible protrusion and the flexible contact flex along axes that are generally orthogonal to one another so the flexible contact interacts with the female exterior shield substantially independently of the flexible protrusion.

Abstract: A scannable fast dynamic register including a data and scan enable circuit, a precharge circuit, a select circuit, a store circuit, and a scan input enable circuit. The data and scan enable circuit pulls a first precharge node to a discharge node in response to the clock upon evaluation in normal mode. The precharge circuit precharges first and second precharge nodes high, in which one of the precharged nodes discharges depending upon whether a data block evaluates. The store circuit and an output gate are responsive to the second precharge node to provide the output. The select circuit is interposed before the store circuit to allow injection of scan data in a scan mode. In scan mode, the scan input enable circuit provides scan data to the select and store circuits. The scan input enable circuit also includes a store circuit which operates with the first store circuit in a master-slave configuration.

  • Publication number: 20140319706
Abstract: A water vapour transport membrane comprises a nanofibrous layer disposed on a macroporous support layer, the nanofibrous layer coated with a water permeable polymer. A method for making a water vapour transport membrane comprises forming a nanofibrous layer on a macroporous support layer and applying a water permeable polymer to the nanofibrous layer. The water permeable polymer can be applied for so that the nanofibrous layer is substantially or partially filled with the water permeable polymer, or so that the coating forms a substantially continuous layer on one surface of the nanofibrous layer. In some embodiments of the method, the nanofibrous layer is formed by electro-spinning at least one polymer on at least one side of the porous support layer. In some embodiments, the support layer is formable and the method further comprises forming a three-dimensional structure from the water vapour transport membrane, for example, by compression molding, pleating or corrugating.

Abstract: Systems, methods, and machine-readable articles of manufacture enable private notification of a participant in a telephone conference. In representative embodiments, a system receives a telephone call intended for a first conference participant, generates an informative announcement containing information regarding the call, mixes the informative announcement with the conference audio, and privately plays the mixed audio to the first participant. In other representative embodiments, the system concurrently generates a non-informative announcement, mixes the non-informative announcement with the conference audio, and plays the second mixed audio to the other conference participant or participants. In this way, the first participant is notified of the incoming call while simultaneously listening to the conference audio, and the information regarding the call is not shared with the other conference participant or participants.
