Abstract: A method for manufacturing a custom cranial remodeling device of a type comprising plastic material is provided. The method includes the steps of: providing a first database of three-dimensional digital surface images of trim lines for cranial remodeling devices of a first type; providing a second database of three-dimensional digital surface images of trim lines for cranial remodeling devices of a second type; providing a first program for creating trim lines for a cranial remodeling device of the first type, the first program utilizing the first database; providing a second program for creating trim lines for a cranial remodeling device of the second type, the second program utilizing the second database; generating a three-dimensional model of a desired head shape; forming the plastic material onto the model; and selecting one of the first or the second programs to generate trim lines for the cranial remodeling device.

Abstract: Techniques disclosed herein include systems and methods for pressure measurement of fluids including vehicular fluids. The pressure sensor includes a microelectromechanical system (MEMS) sensor for pressure measurement. The MEMS sensor is attached to a glass tube which is compressively sealed to a mounting frame that is attachable to a pressure port of a fluid-containing enclosure. Techniques disclosed herein provide an hermetic seal between the tube and the mounting frame and a rigid seal between the MEMS sensor to a pressure sensor while decoupling thermal expansion stress from the MEMS sensor. With such decoupling techniques, pressure sensing reliability and accuracy can be improved because thermal expansion stress is decoupled from the MEMS sensor. Such techniques provide an accurate, durable, and cost-effective pressure sensor.

Abstract: Disclosed are various embodiments for facilitating fulfillment of applications to various devices that may be associated with a user account. When a request to obtain access to an application is received, a device characteristic of the various devices is identified and a corresponding application binary associated with the application is identified. The corresponding application binaries are distributed to the devices corresponding to the user account. Additionally, an appropriate browser accessible application is identified and access can be granted to a device depending upon the capabilities of a browser executed by the device.

Abstract: This disclosure provides systems, methods and apparatus for use in an autostereoscopic display system. In one aspect, a display device can include a pixel array having a first set of pixels configured to display image data for a viewer's right eye and a second set of pixels configured to display image data for a viewer's left eye. The pixels of the first set can be interspersed amongst the pixels of the second set. A prismatic array can be positioned forward of the pixel array and can have a plurality of prisms coupled to the pixel array. Each prism can be aligned with a pixel from the first set of pixels and a pixel from the second set of pixels. The prisms can be configured to selectively guide light from the pixels to an associated one of the left or right eyes, thereby forming a 3D image.

Abstract: A memory system may include an optimized data compaction algorithm. The compaction may include transferring only valid data from a source block to a destination block. A compaction bitmap that is maintained in random access memory (“RAM”) may be populated during the compaction process. The populated bitmap may be used to copy valid fragments to the destination block.

Abstract: The present invention features methods for applying a force, such as laser or radiofrequency (RF) energy to the wall of the small intestine, which targets and eliminates a portion of the capillary and vascular network responsible for the transportation of nutrients to the patient. This causes the patient to absorb a reduced percentage of nutrients, which results in a reduced caloric intake. Various types and shapes of applicators are used to deliver the treatment energy, and these applicator devices are within the scope of the present invention. The applicator can be deployed through either a body cavity (e.g., the oral cavity), an open surgical procedure, or a minimally invasive incision or incisions.

Abstract: Pixels that include display elements that are configured with different structural dimensions corresponding to the color of light they provide are disclosed. In one implementation, a display device includes an array having a plurality of electromechanical pixels disposed on a substrate, each pixel including at least a first display element and a second display element. Each of the first and second display elements interferometrically modulating light by moving a reflective element between a relaxed position spaced apart from the substrate to an actuated position further away from the substrate than the relaxed position by applying a voltage across the reflective element and a stationary electrode. The stationary electrode of each display element is sized to provide actuation of the movable reflective element using the same actuation voltage even though the electrical gap through which the reflective element moves is different within a pixel.

Abstract: A synthetic antiferromagnetic (SAF) structure for a spintronic device is disclosed and has an AP2/antiferromagnetic (AF) coupling/CoFeB configuration. The SAF structure is thinned to reduce the fringing (Ho) field while maintaining high coercivity. The AP2 reference layer has intrinsic perpendicular magnetic anisotropy (PMA) and induces PMA in a thin CoFeB layer through AF coupling. In one embodiment, AF coupling is improved by inserting a Co dusting layer on top and bottom surfaces of a Ru AF coupling layer. When AP2 is (Co/Ni)4, and CoFeB thickness is 7.5 Angstroms, Ho is reduced to 125 Oe, Hc is 1000 Oe, and a balanced saturation magnetization-thickness product (Mst)=0.99 is achieved. The SAF structure may also be represented as FL2/AF coupling/CoFeB where FL2 is a ferromagnetic layer with intrinsic PMA.

Abstract: This disclosure provides systems, methods and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on computer storage media, to reproduce a target color in an output device. In one aspect, the output device can include display elements and a processor. The processor can be configured to (a) receive data on the target color to be reproduced, (b) select the display element associated with the highest brightness, (c) determine a portion of the target color to be reproduced by the selected display element, (d) calculate a remaining amount of the target color, (e) use the display element having the next highest brightness as the selected display element of (c), and (f) repeat (c) to (e) iteratively until all display elements have been selected or the remaining amount of the target color is below a threshold.

Abstract: Compositions for delaying, attenuating or preventing cardiac remodeling following cardiac injury contain fibroblast cells in a dosage providing an effective amount to delay, attenuate or prevent cardiac remodeling following cardiac injury. These cells are obtained by biopsy, preferably from the patient, then cultured and proliferated prior to use. It has been discovered that certain subpopulations of these cells are even better suited for repair or regeneration of tissue, the cells exhibiting properties similar to stem cells or multipotent cells. In a preferred embodiment, the cells are administered to delay, attenuate or prevent cardiac remodeling following cardiac injury.

Abstract: Example embodiments herein provide for efficient distribution of content in a content distribution network (CDN) by a CDN server. The content is efficiently distributed by associating live content and time-shifted content with a common resource identifier, which may (in some instances) avoid re-transporting content across the network. To facilitate this, an entry point CDN server is configured to map the common resource identifier to a permanent storage location (that is itself associated with a different resource identifier) after expiration of the live viewing period.

Abstract: Methods and devices are provided for communicating data in a wireless channel. In one example, a method includes adapting the transmission time interval (TTI) length of transport container for transmitting data in accordance with a criteria. The criteria may include (but is not limited to) a latency requirement of the data, a buffer size associated with the data, a mobility characteristic of a device that will receive the data. The TTI lengths may be manipulated for a variety of reasons, such as for reducing overhead, satisfy quality of service (QoS) requirements, maximize network throughput, etc. In some embodiments, TTIs having different TTI lengths may be carried in a common radio frame. In other embodiments, the wireless channel may partitioned into multiple bands each of which carrying (exclusively or otherwise) TTIs having a certain TTI length.

Abstract: During a calculation technique, a modification to a reflective photo-mask is calculated. In particular, using information specifying a defect associated with a location on a top surface of the reflective photo-mask, the modification to the reflective photo-mask is calculated. For example, the calculation may involve an inverse optical calculation in which a difference between a pattern associated with the reflective photo-mask at an image plane in a photo-lithographic process and a reference pattern at the image plane in the photo-lithographic process is used to calculate the modification at an object plane in the photo-lithographic process. Note that the modification includes a material added to the top surface of the reflective photo-mask using an additive fabrication process. Moreover, the modification is proximate to the location.

Abstract: A method of operating a heating, ventilation, or air conditioning (HVAC) monitoring service is described. The method includes: providing a local device for installation in an HVAC system of a residential or commercial building; periodically receiving data from the local device across a wide area network, wherein the received data includes electrical sensor data including at least one of current or power; and storing the received data. The method further includes: analyzing the stored data to selectively identify problems and selectively predict faults of the HVAC system; receiving a subscription fee corresponding to the building, the subscription fee applying to a calendar period; and during the calendar period, providing information on the identified problems and the predicted faults to a customer corresponding to the building.

Abstract: The method is applied to the recording device, and the recording device is connected to a set-top box. The error proof method includes following steps. In the beginning, whether a startup process of the set-top box has been finished is determined according to a video signal and an audio signal outputted from the set-top box. After the startup process of the set-top box is finished, the video signal outputted from the set-top box is analyzed to determine whether an image of the video signal is covered by an information window. If the image of the video signal is not covered by any information window, then a channel changing signal is transmitted to the set-top box, to change a channel of the set-top box to a reserved recording channel. After that, a television program of the reserved recording channel is recorded.

Abstract: A fluid pump includes an outlet for discharging fluid from the fluid pump, a housing, and a motor with a shaft that rotates about an axis. The fluid pump also includes an impeller having a first array of blades radially surrounding the axis and a second array of blades radially surrounding the first array of blades. The fluid pump also includes an inlet plate adjacent to the impeller and has an inlet for introducing fluid into the fluid pump, a first inlet plate flow channel aligned with the first array of blades and having a first inlet plate flow channel cross-sectional area, and a second inlet plate flow channel aligned with the second array of blades and having a second inlet plate flow channel cross-sectional area. The second inlet plate flow channel cross-sectional area is synchronized with the first inlet plate flow channel cross-sectional area.

Abstract: Techniques are presented to operate a greater number of dice in parallel while not exceeding peak current limits. The device can arbitrate between multiple dice and, when needed, suspend operations on one or more dice in a way to average the chance of performance penalty so that all chips will proceed with write at an equal probability. In other aspects, the suspension of operations can be weighted based on factors such as the relative speed of the different dice or differing loads.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatus for hair treatment are disclosed which include applying treatment radiation to a skin treatment area and/or to one or more hairs to deposit energy in one or more hairs so as to modify the structure (e.g., the mechanical structure and/or the chemical structure of at least a portion of the hair(s)). The applied radiation can modify at least a portion of the hair (e.g., the hair tip) to make the hair less capable of re-entering the skin. Specifically, the proposed technique is directed to decreasing stiffness of at least portion of a hair through diminishing its flexural modulus as well as increasing the bend radius of its sharpest point. The methods and apparatus can treat and/or prevent pseudofolliculitis barbae (PFB) in the treatment area.

Abstract: Systems and methods of processing orders are provided. In some embodiments, a retailer for fulfilling an order is chosen, and a predicted time of arrival for the customer to arrive at the retailer is determined. An order notification is transmitted to the retailer, which inserts the order into a preparation queue to be prepared and delivered to a pickup location by the predicted time of arrival. In some embodiments, the location of the customer is monitored and the predicted time of arrival may be updated if the location of the customer deviates from an expected location. In some embodiments, a string of orders is created. A set of retailers capable of fulfilling orders for a set of products is determined. A set of pickup locations associated with the set of retailers is determined, and path.

Abstract: A system and method for generating an acoustic database for a particular narrator that does not require said narrator to recite a pre-defined script. The system and method generate an acoustic database by using voice recognition or speech-to-text algorithms to automatically generate a text script of a voice message while simultaneously or near-simultaneously sampling the voice message to create the acoustic database. The acoustic database may be associated with the narrator of the voice message by an identifier, such as a telephone number. The acoustic database may then be used by a text-to-speech processor to read a text message when the narrator is identified as the sender of the text massage, providing an audio output of the contents of the text message with a simulation of the sender's voice. The user of the system may be provided an audio message that sounds like the originator of the text message.
