Abstract: A system and method for producing an image include a plurality of sensors detecting light from a subject being imaged, each sensor generating an associated video signal indicative of its detected light, each video signal comprising a predefined time interval. A decoder receives the video signals from their associated sensors, detects the predefined time intervals of the received video signals, generates a synchronization signal, and transmits the synchronization signal to each sensor during the predefined time interval of its associated video signal.

  • Publication number: 20140085639
Abstract: An optical coherence analysis system uses a laser swept source that is constrained to operate in a mode locked condition. This is accomplished by synchronously changing the laser cavity's gain and/or phase based on the round trip travel time of light in the cavity. Many high-speed wavelength swept laser sources emit pulses synchronized with the round trip time of the cavity as part of a nonlinear optical frequency red shifting process. Stable pulsation is associated with smooth tuning and low relative intensity noise. Addition of mode-locking methods to this class of lasers can control and stabilize these lasers to a low clock jitter and RIN state, and in specific cases allow long-to-short wavelength tuning in addition to the usual short-to-long (red shifting). The laser may comprise a SOA (410), a tunable Fabry-Perot-Filter (412) as one reflector and an Output coupler (405) in an optical fiber (406) to adjust the cavity length.

  • Publication number: 20140083492
Abstract: Designs of extremely high efficiency solar cells are described. A novel alternating bias scheme enhances the photovoltaic power extraction capability above the cell band-gap by enabling the extraction of hot carriers. When applied in conventional solar cells, this alternating bias scheme has the potential of more than doubling their yielded net efficiency. When applied in conjunction with solar cells incorporating quantum wells (QWs) or quantum dots (QDs) based solar cells, the described alternating bias scheme has the potential of extending such solar cell power extraction coverage, possibly across the entire solar spectrum, thus enabling unprecedented solar power extraction efficiency. Within such cells, a novel alternating bias scheme extends the cell energy conversion capability above the cell material band-gap while the quantum confinement structures are used to extend the cell energy conversion capability below the cell band-gap.

Abstract: A programming process evaluates NAND strings of a block to detect a defective NAND string, e.g., a NAND string with a defective storage element. Status bits can be stored which identify the defective NAND string. Original data which is to be written in the NAND string is modified so that programming of the defective NAND string does not occur. For example, a bit of write data which requires a storage element in the defective NAND string to be programmed to a higher data state is modified (e.g., flipped) so that no programming of the storage element is required. Subsequently, when a read operation is performed, the flipped bits are flipped back to their original value, such as by using error correction code decoding. In an erase process, a count of defective NAND strings is made and used to adjust a pass condition of a verify test.

  • Publication number: 20140080438
Abstract: An in-vehicle communication system configured to receive signals from a transmitter configured to transmit periodically a time-reference signal and receiver specific information. An information transmission time of receiver specific information is timed relative to a reference transmission time of the time-reference signal. The system includes a receiver characterized as having a receiver identification value. The receiver is configured to operate from an off-state to an on-state during an information-expected time interval to receive receiver specific information. The information-expected time interval is determined based on a reception time of the time-reference signal and the receiver identification value. This provides a way to ensure that the transmitter only transmits messages when it knows the intended receiver is on. It also ensures that the receiver is on only when messages that for that receiver are expected to be received.

Abstract: A downhole tool comprising an inner sleeve with a plurality of sleeve ports and a housing positioned radially outwardly of the inner sleeve and having a plurality of housing ports, with the housing and inner sleeve partially defining a space radially therebetween. The space is occupied by a shifting sleeve. A fluid path extends between the interior flowpath of the tool and the space. A fluid control device, such as a burst disk, occupies at least portion of the fluid path. In one state, the shifting sleeve is in a first position between the housing ports and the sleeve ports to prevent fluid flow between the interior flowpath and exterior of the tool. The fluid control device may selectively permit fluid flow, and thus pressure communication, into the annular space to cause a differential pressure across the shifting sleeve.

Abstract: Techniques disclosed herein include systems and methods for pressure measurement of fluids including vehicular fluids. The pressure sensor includes a MEMS die for pressure measurement. The MEMS die is attached to a glass pedestal member. The pedestal member is mechanically held in place via a mounting frame that attachable to a pressure port of a fluid-containing enclosure. Techniques herein provide a strong connection of a MEMS die to a pressure sensor while decoupling thermal expansion stress from the MEMS die. With such decoupling techniques, pressure sensing reliability and accuracy can be improved. With thermal expansion stress decoupled from the MEMS die, sensor sealing materials can be selected for their robust chemical properties instead of structural properties. Such techniques provide an accurate, durable, and cost-effective pressure sensor.
