Abstract: Methods and systems for providing redundant telephony call processing in geographically separate locations are disclosed. First and second telephony call processing hosts are provided in first and second geographic locations separated from each other. The telephony call processing hosts are located on the same LAN, which is also divided among the geographically separated locations. The geographically separate LAN or LANs are bridged using either a customer's IP network or isolation routers associated with the redundant telephony call processing hosts.

Abstract: Methods and systems for identifying and mitigating telecommunications management message security threats are disclosed. A distributed security screening platform receives management messages from external sources. The distributed security screening platform identifies messages affecting the status of the same managed resource and applies a time-based security policy to these messages. If the messages are determined to violate the time-based security policy, a mitigating action is performed to protect the managed resource.

Abstract: A routing node communicates between subscribers of different application-layer mobile communications protocols, such as IS-41 and GSM, without converting each IS-41 message to GSM and vice versa. Rather than converting each message to the protocol of the intended recipient, the routing node functions as an HLR to provide the location of a mobile subscriber in a different application-layer mobile communications protocol and as an MSC to forward short message service messages to a short message service center of the other application-layer mobile communications protocol.
Abstract: Methods and systems for transmitting user part messages between signaling system seven (SS7) signaling points over an internet protocol (IP) network include receiving, at a signal transfer point, a first SS7 user part message. The first SS7 user part message can be received from a first SS7 signaling point, such as a service switching point (SSP). The first SS7 signaling point is encapsulated in a first IP packet. The first IP packet is transmitted to a second SS7 signaling point over an IP network.
Abstract: Methods and systems for distributing signaling messages among multiple processors for stateful processing and/or sequenced processing of the messages on a per sequence basis are disclosed. A signaling message is received and it is determined whether the signaling message requires stateful and/or sequenced processing. If the signaling message requires stateful and/or sequenced processing, a sequence identifier is computed for the signaling message. The sequence identifier is unique on a per sequence basis. The sequence identifier is then used to distribute the signaling message to an application processor for stateful and/or sequenced processing.

Abstract: Methods and systems for triggerless screening of WMS messages for delivery with differential quality of service (QoS) are disclosed. Signaling messages are screened to determine whether they contain WMS content. In response to determining that a message contains WMS content, origination and/or destination party information is extracted from the WMS message to determine the QoS associated with the WMS message. The WMS message is then modified to include routing information for delivering the SMS messages to their intended destinations with different qualities of service.

Abstract: Methods and systems for universal, automatic service selection are disclosed. A method for universal, automatic service selection includes receiving signaling messages and identifying signaling connection control part (SCCP) messages from the signaling messages. The SCCP messages are decoded to extract SCCP parameters and application layer parameters from the messages. A routing address translation service is selected for each of the SCCP messages based on application identifiers that identify application layer message types alone or in combination with other parameters. Selecting the routing address translation service in this manner makes the service selection more robust and universally applicable, especially in networks where different or non-standard selector parameters are utilized.

Abstract: Methods and systems for exchanging reachability information and for switching between redundant interfaces in a network cluster are disclosed. Nodes in the network cluster are connected via redundant links and exchange reachability messages at periodic intervals. Each node includes a kernel routing table used to route messages and a reachability application routing table for storing reachability information used to update entries in the kernel routing table. Each node executes a predetermined algorithm for selecting entries in the reachability application routing table to be written to the kernel routing table.

Abstract: A filtering and application triggering platform may be implemented on a signaling message routing node to decode signaling messages and increase efficiency in subsequent processing of the signaling message. A communications link module on a signaling message routing node receives a signaling message. A first filtering and application triggering module associated with the communication link module extracts predetermined parameters from the signaling message and generates a decode key based on the parameters. The first filtering and application triggering module applies a first triggering rule to the decode key and determines whether to forward or drop the message. If the first filtering and application triggering module determines that the message should be forwarded, the first filtering and application triggering module forwards the message to another processing module within the signaling message routing node. The decode key is forwarded along with the message.

Abstract: Methods and systems for providing enhanced network security for network management messages and subsystem management messages are disclosed. A network security function receives a network or subsystem management message from a first location in a network. The network security function determines whether one or more predetermined parameters in the network management message are not associated with the originating location. In response to determining that are not associated with the originating location, a network security action, such as discarding the message and/or notifying a network operator, is performed.

Abstract: A multiple point code routing node is configured to recognize multiple point codes as true point codes. The multiple point code routing node originates, terminates, and processes messages having any of its any of its true point codes. As a result, the multiple point code routing node can replace two or more signal transfer points in a conventional telecommunications network without requiring reconfiguration of other nodes in the telecommunications network. Multiple point code routing node may also recognize multiple adjacent point codes or secondary adjacent point codes of a mated multiple point code routing node. Because the multiple point code routing node can associate multiple point codes with its mate, the number of logical or physical signaling links between adjacent multiple point code routing nodes can be increased.

Abstract: A porting control routing (PCR) node (302) is adapted to efficiently route signaling messages associated with a mobile subscriber that has been either ported in to or out of a service provider's wireless communication network. The PCR node (302) includes both range- and exception based routing rule databases (348 and 346). These databases increase flexibility in allocating mobile identification numbers among multiple mobile service nodes. Furthermore, the association of a ported status indicator and related routing information with entries in the exception based database allows the PCR node (302) to more efficiently manage a service provider's mobile service resources.

Abstract: A universal triggerless number portability routing node receives a first call setup message from an end office. The triggerless number portability routing node may examine a first routing number (RN) value contained in the first call setup message to determine whether the first RN is a home RN value. If the first RN is determined to be a home RN value, a number portability database lookup is performed based on the called party dialed number. Once a number portability lookup is performed, the call setup message is modified to include a second RN value returned by the NP database, and the modified call setup message is routed to a destination node, which may be a tandem gateway or an end office/mobile switching center.
Abstract: A routing node for translating and re-directing Signaling System 7 (SS7) messages associated with ported subscribers in a communications network is disclosed. Re-direction or re-routing of signaling message packets is accomplished without the need for explicit local number portability (LNP) type triggers or queries, and as such the routing node of the present invention is considered to implement a triggerless LNP routing solution. Upon entering the routing node, SS7 ISDN User Part (ISUP) type signaling messages that require LNP translation service are encapsulated in an SS7 Signaling Connection Control Part (SCCP) message packet and internally routed within the switch to an LNP translation subsystem. The LNP translation subsystem can be integrated within the routing node or a portion of the LNP translation subsystem can be located on an external database server platform. LNP translation involves the lookup of a called party address in an LNP database, and the return of a Location Routing Number (LRN).

Abstract: Methods and systems for routing messages between a mated pair of routing nodes with a distributed processing architecture and one or more redundantly connected remote applications are disclosed. A mated pair of routing nodes uses private point codes to distribute messages destined for remote applications among internal processing modules and between the routing nodes. The routing nodes replace the private point codes with a shared point code before sending the messages to one of the remote applications. When communicating with external PSTN nodes, the mated pair of routing nodes uses the shared point code.
