  • Patent number: 5930697
Abstract: A heterodyne receiver operating on the principle of synchronous modulation for time-signal reception where a first mixer is driven by the first phase-locking loop which is fed from a reference frequency source and a switchable precharging value. By means of switched frequency dividers and the precharging values, internationally different clock frequencies (JP: 40 kHz; USA/GB: 60 kHz; EU/D: 77.5 kHz) can be processed and converted to the intermediate frequencies. These are then synchronously demodulated by means of a second mixer which receives its signal from the second phase-locking loop that is driven through the intermediate frequency signal via the phase comparator, and also through the control signal of the phase-locking loop, so that only residual error adjustment need be performed.

  • Patent number: 5929535
Abstract: An ignition circuit output stage which is driven by one or several microprocessors. Up to now different modes of operation each required their own different ignition circuit output stage. The ignition circuit output stage according to the invention is programmable - that is, using one and the same output stage, different modes of operation can be selected such as, for example, the unregulated or output stage mode as well as the regulated and limited output current mode. The circuit essentially consists of a down converter which, when activated, will regulate and limit the discharge current. The down converter can be activated and deactivated by means of an appropriate signal. When the down converter is in its deactivated state, an unregulated discharge takes place; this is the output stage mode.

  • Patent number: 5926778
Abstract: A method for temperature compensation in measuring systems that are dependent on the operating temperature and whose temperature dependency is caused by temperature-sensitive components that can be operated electronically, or are linked thermally with a neighboring electronically driven component which is already required for the measuring system. In the method according to the invention, the temperature-sensitive component or a neighboring component are operated in such a way that temperature compensation can be performed without any further auxiliary means such as, for example, an additional heating device. Temperature compensation of this kind can then take place in three different ways. In the one method, the temperature coefficient determined and utilized; in a second method the temperature-sensitive components of the system are heated up to a fixed operating temperature, which is the basis for all measurements, and in a third method a temperature-independent operating point is determined.

  • Patent number: 5914545
Abstract: A circuit arrangement protects an FET power switch against damage from short circuits that may occur in the load connected between the drain terminal and an operating voltage source of the FET. The protection is achieved by the cooperation between a shunt resistor (3) connected between ground and the source terminal (S) of the FET and a gate voltage limiter (7) connected to the gate terminal of the FET. This cooperation limits the short circuit current through the FET until a short circuit detector (DT) provides a control signal that switches the FET off.

  • Patent number: 5896655
Abstract: A method for the manufacture of electrically conductive lead-throughs for metallized plastic housings. Elevations around the lead-through holes in the housing part are formed at the time of making the housing part (e.g. by injection molding). The entire surface of the housing part is then metallized and the metallization on the elevations around the lead-through holes is removed by mechanical processes that act in one plane and where the lower metallization areas remain unaffected on account of the difference in level. Finally, the metal pins are attached in the lead-through holes by soldering or glueing.

  • Patent number: 5892435
Abstract: A process for triggering a passive safety device for vehicle occupants inside a vehicle, in particular airbags, pretensioning systems, buckle switches, and roll-over bars, where--by means of electric sensors, an evaluation circuit evaluating the acceleration signals of these sensors, and triggering agents--the safety devices are triggered if the acceleration signals indicate a vehicle condition which may be potentially hazardous for the vehicle occupants. According to the invention, sensor signal characteristics will be generated from quantified sensor signals by means of an evaluation function; these sensor signal characteristics will then be differentiated and fed into an amount calculation function. The up-integrated values of these amounts will then be compared to a trigger threshold so that safety devices can be triggered, if necessary.

  • Patent number: 5818851
Abstract: A method is described for detecting the time messages in the faulty signal of a time-signal transmitter comprising the steps below. Probabilities are assigned to the received information/bits as they are received and whose sign specifies the value of the bit and whose numerical value indicates the certainty of reception. Except for the bits designating the minute information, the probabilities of successive time messages are totaled with time correctness in a one-dimensional memory field. From the totaled probabilities, a reduced time message is reconstructed that initially contains no information on the minutes. If the reconstructed time message does not change over two successive time intervals, and if preset minimum values for the number of probabilities are exceeded for all bits, then the reduced time message is recognized as being correct. The minutes are determined separately and added to the time message recognized as being correct.

  • Patent number: 5805061
Abstract: A method and an electronic circuit are for monitoring the operation of a circuit including a plurality of intermittently powered parallel load elements, such as the flasher lamps of a vehicle. The total load current is directed through a measuring shunt resistor, and the resulting voltage across the shunt is measured and evaluated. The measured voltage initially arising across the shunt is used as a basis to establish a first voltage level for a load failure control threshold. A second voltage level greater than the first voltage level is established as a short-circuit control threshold. Then, the voltage value arising across the shunt during operation of the circuit is compared to the load failure control threshold and the short-circuit control threshold, and a load failure or a short-circuit is detected dependent upon and responsive to the result of these comparisons.
