  • Patent number: 5706177
Abstract: A multi-terminal surface-mounted electronic device with contact surfaces placed entirely or partly around several sides, as well as to a method for manufacturing it. The parts according to the invention allow assembly on a circuit board such as p.c.b. and foil in forward, backward and sideward direction. Previous multi-terminal surface-mounted electronic devices could as a rule be mounted in one direction only. For all other directions such as backwards and sidewards costly special constructions or fundamental changes to the circuit board (printed-circuit board, foil) were necessary. In accordance with the invention, an electronic component is located in a housing and both the electronic component and the housing are joined to a base strip. The base strip provides the terminals whose contact surfaces are so formed that they can embrace the entire housing either completely or partially.

  • Patent number: 5698865
Abstract: The light-emitting diode consists of a substrate and a light-emission-generating layer located on the substrate and embedded between the cladding layers of a double heterostructure. On the top cladding layer, a current diffusion layer is located on which there is a further contact layer structure. The current diffusion layer is sufficiently thin so as to hardly absorb any light-emission. Thus, it can be economically produced by means of the MOCVD process. At the same time, the contact layer structure is provided with branched and finger-type electrodes for distributing the current together with the current diffusion layer onto the surface of the light-emission-generating layer. However, the structural size of the branched and finger-type electrodes is selected such that these can still be manufactured by the standard processes used in LED manufacture.

  • Patent number: 5696776
Abstract: A data transmission method in a real-time data processing system, comprising a control unit and at least one function unit linked to this control unit through a data line, is described that permits noise-free and noise-insensitive transmission of data. In accordance with the invention, the data is stored in a buffer memory made up of a shift register and an intermediate storage, before being loaded into a main memory of the function unit. Transfer to the intermediate storage takes place only if certain conditions are satisfied that identify transmission faults. Before the data is stored in the main memory, the data is read-back into the control unit memory for the purposes of checking and there it is compared with the original data. If there is no correspondence, data transmission is performed again.

  • Patent number: 5696432
Abstract: To control the output from an induction motor with a main winding and an auxiliary winding with multiple taps, varying output stages of the motor are adjusted by the activation of the auxiliary winding or one of its part-windings. According to the invention, the coarse adjustment of the power to be output by the motor is effected by the selection of a certain output stage and a repeating digital m-bit keying pattern generated simultaneously for the purpose of fine adjustment, so that the motor is driven alternately at the set output stage and the next higher or next lower output stage as a function of the sequential logic values of the keying pattern. By means of the process complying with the invention, precise power control is possible which can be used to advantage for the adjustment of output.

  • Patent number: 5660448
Abstract: In a method for controlling the braking process of a motor vehicle, nonlinear boosting of the braking force is performed if the actuating speed of the brake pedal exceeds a specified trigger threshold value. • Patent number: 5661079
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for contacting SIPOS-passivated semiconductor zones on a semiconductor body, where the removal of the oxide layer from the wafer surface takes place at the same time as the oxide etching before SIPOS passivation. The double-layered SIPOS passivation consists here of a N-SIPOS layer and a O-SIPOS layer. For contact opening, only the N-SIPOS layer is removed by wet chemical etching. By annealing the previously vaporized and structured metallization, a good contact results which can also carry a high current. The process according to the invention involves a simple sequence of operations and an underetching of the passivation layers and the disadvantages resulting from this are reliably avoided.

  • Patent number: 5623099
Abstract: This invention concerns a capacitive acceleration sensor complete with planar build-up, in particular for use as a component part of a vehicle occupant protection system within a motor vehicle. A self-supporting structure will be movably located within a hollow space between two semiconductor elements which are electrically insulated from each other but mechanically bonded, where an acceleration force acting on the inert mass of the self-supporting structure will cause a change in the distance between this self-supporting structure and the semiconductor element. This produces a change in capacity which can be evaluated by means of suitable circuitry.

  • Patent number: 5608269
Abstract: Increasingly, motor vehicles are being equipped with safety systems for vehicle occupants and where these safety systems are controlled by electrically actuated triggering means such as ignition pills for airbags that in turn are controlled from an output stage. The invention demonstrates a method that ensures safe and uninterrupted operation of these triggering means and which protects the output stage from being destroyed should a fault occur as a result of, for example, an ignition pill by-pass.

  • Patent number: 5585625
Abstract: Arrangement for detecting the occupancy of a seat for safety systems having a plurality of light emitters, which are imaged onto the seat via an optical unit and the luminous spots created there are imaged via a further optical unit onto a photodetector field. The contour is acquired with a microprocessor via the evaluation of the position of these luminous spots on the photodetector field, and thus the type of occupancy is determined. This information can be supported via passive IR detectors for the acquisition of the temperature differential.
