  • Patent number: 4589591
Abstract: Joints in packing containers of heat-sealable gas-tight laminate are sensitive to deformation, since this often results in a deterioration of the gas-tightness. This is due to the accumulation of melted thermoplastics which is produced during the heat-sealing. This problem is eliminated in that the sealing zone of the joint is given a limited width and is placed at a distance from the edge of the laminate. A method and an arrangement for realizing this comprises a heating zone whose width is limited in relation to the width of the sealing jaws which are used for the sealing together of the material layers.

  • Patent number: 4584819
Abstract: The disclosure relates to an apparatus for applying objects such as spoons or suction tubes diagonally to a side wall of a packing container. As the containers are advanced by a conveyor, a carriage reciprocates adjacent the conveyor. A rotary drum is mounted on an inclined axle on the carriage. The objects are supplied to the drum in the form of a band in which the objects are spaced apart. The drum holds the individual objects while they are severed from the band by a reciprocating knife. Rotation of drum positions each object in a correct angular position with respect to the side wall of the container. An adhesive applicator is also positioned on the carriage to apply adhesive to the side wall of the container. A transfer arm applies the object against the side wall of the container where it is retained by the adhesive.

  • Patent number: 4585498
Abstract: A packing container of the non-returnable type is frequently manufactured from laminated material which comprises a central carrier layer of paper with thermoplastic layers applied to both sides. As an opening arrangement, a pre-punched pouring opening is used which is covered on the one hand by a tear-off cover strip located outside the packing container and, on the other hand, by an inner protective strip. A method for sealing an emptying opening in accordance with the invention ensures that a part of the inner protective strip corresponding to the shape and size of the pouring opening accompanies the cover strip since the strips are heat-sealed to each other at the same time as they are pressed against each other by means of pressure fluid. An arrangement for carrying out the method comprises a heating device with a heatable zone and an outlet for pressure fluid.

  • Patent number: 4570788
Abstract: Packing containers with fold-out pouring spout are used for a great number of beverages, e.g. milk. The pouring spout comprises a number of connected triangular wall panels which are delimited by folding lines. On opening, the pouring spout is folded out and the packing container is opened in that an outer end of the pouring spout is removed. To prevent the pouring spout from reverting to its folded-in condition after opening, the folding lines which delimit the material panel of the pouring spout from the upper side of the packing container are arranged so that they run at unequal angles. In this manner the breaking open and the forming of the pouring spout are facilitated.

  • Patent number: 4566928
Abstract: A tear-up opening arrangement for a packing container which is manufactured from a plane packing material web by folding is disclosed. The packing material is pierced through along a cut line which is situated alongside or in the vicinity of a base line of a sealing fin projecting from the packing container. The cut line is covered along the inside of the packing container by a thin, molecular-oriented plastic strip whose direction of orientation coincides with the extension of the cut line. The cut line has two end portions extending on either side of the apex of a triangular lug of the container and a center portion extending parallel to, but at a distance from, a line through the apex and the end portions.

  • Patent number: 4559259
Abstract: A packing laminate which is intended to be converted into packing containers is often provided with crease lines in order to facilitate folding and shaping. At the places where crease lines cross each other a multiple folding of the laminate takes place on conversion into packing containers which, among other things, means that small cracks are formed in the different material layers, so that the tightness of the packing container is put into jeopardy. In accordance with the invention, a packing laminate is proposed in which these difficulties are overcome by providing the laminate with specially designed auxiliary crease lines which in the region of the laminate, where the folding lines cross each other or meet, replace the (main) crease line guiding the folding line. The auxiliary crease lines are situated at such a distance from the main crease line that the folding line is not affected, that is to say, the folding line will after folding not coincide in any part with the auxiliary crease lines.

  • Patent number: 4544093
Abstract: When a packaging container is formed by sealing an area of sheet material to the edge of another area of sheet material, the L-joint or T-joint so formed is sometimes liable to rupture when subjected to blows or strain. According to this invention that danger is reduced or eliminated by moulding a zone (4) of an end closure panel (3) abutting on the container wall edge to which it is jointed so that it forms a flange resting against and bonded to the face of said wall (1). The flange may be provided with a lip (6) projecting from a short length of the edge of said closure panel.

  • Patent number: 4534498
Abstract: A guiding and braking unit for a material web which passes through a processing machine, such as a machine for the manufacture of packing containers. The unit comprises a roller adapted to a guide cylinder for the web. This roller is manufactured from a material with a high coefficient of friction. The roller is adapted so that it can be swivelled via an arm in a direction transverse to that of the material web to thus follow the material web when it is moved sideways, or axially in relation to the guide cylinder. Each sideways movement, however, because of the suspension of the roller, brings about a lifting of the roller which is continuously counteracted by the pressing of the roller against the cylinder. As a result, the roller is returned automatically to a central position and through friction, carries the material web with it to a central position in relation to the guide cylinder.

  • Patent number: 4534248
Abstract: In the rotary punching of a moving material web, the punched out waste material has to be removed so as not to interfere with the course of the punching. This can be done with a vacuum and internal ducts in the female roll, but this method cannot be used at high working speeds because of centrifugal force. Instead of this in accordance with the invention, the die hole of the female roll is provided with pistons that are maneuvered to and fro in rhythm with the rotation of the roll. As a result, the punching waste is retained for only a short while after the punching, and then is ejected and carried away via an external suction arrangement.
