Patents Assigned to Tetra Pak International AB
  • Patent number: 4266389
Abstract: Packing machines for the manufacture of packing containers frequently produce these from web-like material, which is supplied to the machine in the form of a roll. During the production the material web is advanced through the machine along a path defined by guiding rollers, guiding rails and similar elements. These guiding elements obstruct in an undesirable manner the movement of the material web through the machine. This difficulty is eliminated in accordance with the invention in that a front and a back part of the material web are advanced alternately. In accordance with the invention, moreover, an arrangement is proposed with first and second web-advancing elements, which operate with alternating working strokes.

  • Patent number: 4258532
Abstract: An arrangement for the feeding of objects to and grouping them on a base.In order to simplify handling and transport of milk packages it is frequent to use transport packages in the form of trays or the like, onto which a number of milk packages are placed in close stacking. For this purpose automatic machinery is used, which machinery automatically loads the milk packages on a transport package placed in position for loading. In order to avoid interruptions when an empty transport package has to be substituted for a filled one this invention suggests an arrangement according to which the milk packages are first collected in close stacking on a pre-loading surface. Thereafter, when the new transport package has been brought in correct position adjacent to the pre-loading surface, the collected milk packages are transferred onto the transport package.

  • Patent number: 4248351
Abstract: A packing container with an unfoldable pouring spout which has an inherent tendency to assume an unfolded position when the container has been opened is disclosed. The ability of the pouring spout to tend to assume the unfolded position is achieved by having certain folding lines of the container weaken the material of the container to an appreciably greater extend than certain other folding lines of the container. The relative difference in weakening of the material caused by the folding lines utilizes the elasticity of the packing material to urge the pouring spout to unfold.

  • Patent number: 4225556
Abstract: Sterilization of a web of packing material is accomplished in two steps with the web first being coated and washed with a sterilizing agent in liquid form at a first treatment station. The web then passes through a second treatment station where sterilizing liquid is sprayed as a fine mist onto a heated surface which vaporizes the sterilizing liquid. The vapor condenses on the passing web to further sterilize the web. One or more heaters again vaporizes the sterilizing agent which is on the packing web to remove the sterilizing agent. The sterilized packing material web is then cut into individual package units after the web has been filled with sterile contents.

  • Patent number: 4222417
Abstract: A filler pipe for filling containers of a packing machine includes a nozzle part having an elongated base plate. One side of the base plate has a plurality of guide vanes which together with the base plate and a material forming a portion of the containers will provide filling channels for a fluid. The guide vanes may be straight or curved and may be arranged so as to lie at a periphery of the base plate. The base plate may preferably have a triangular shape with a generally decreasing width. In another embodiment of the present invention, a distribution chamber is provided beneath the base plate with a plurality of holes in the base plate permitting communication between the distribution chamber and the filling channels. In this embodiment, the base plate is preferably rectangular in shape with the guide vanes extending completely across the base plate.

  • Patent number: 4218265
Abstract: In packing machines of the kind which form a tube of packing material for subsequent conversion into separate, filled packages, a filler pipe for the contents is usually arranged inside the material tube. Especially when the packing machine works with foodstuff under sterile conditions, the filler pipe as well as other machine parts situated inside the tube have to be carefully cleaned before and after production. As the filler pipe normally is surrounded by the foodstuff in the tube, it will have to be cleaned on the outside as well as the inside, and to facilitate the cleaning it is suggested to use a cleaning container, which has a controllable outlet and surrounds the lower end of the filler pipe and makes cleaning by circulation of a cleaning liquid possible. To increase the cleaning effect the cleaning liquid is circulated through the filler pipe as well as through separate nozzles directed towards the outside of the filler pipe.

  • Patent number: 4217085
Abstract: An arrangement for the processing of a moving material web, in particular for the creasing or punching of an extruded material web made of plastics. In the manufacture of such material webs a number of operational steps take place directly in conjunction with the manufacture of the web itself, and the fact that for reasons of quality as well as of manufacturing technique the extrusion process cannot be interrupted makes it necessary to attend to any changes in the crease pattern etc. during operation. The arrangement in accordance with the invention makes this possible, in that the material web can be brought into contact optionally with different pairs of processing rollers with the help of a pair of counter-rollers supported in a swivelling cradle, any pair of unused rollers being freely exchangeable against a pair of rollers with a different creasing pattern.

  • Patent number: 4203796
Abstract: A method and apparatus for joining a new web of material to a moving web in a packing machine is disclosed. The beginning end of the new web is secured in a joining unit which is positioned over the moving web. The joining unit has a pivotably mounted cutting device which is actuated by a piston to cut the moving web. The operation of the joining unit is synchronized with that of the packing machine by a stationary cam over which a follower attached to the cutting device is displaced. When the moving web is about to run out, the joining unit is activated so that the moving web is cut off while the new web is automatically attached to the remaining running length by means of adhesive tape. The automatic joining unit eliminates the need to shut down operation of the packing machine when the web of material runs out.
