  • Patent number: 6764331
Abstract: A small sized connector for connecting wires to an electrical component, such as a printed circuit board. The connector includes a connector frame, and a latch that is hingedly connected to the connector frame. The latch has a raised portion at one end thereof, whereby, when the connector frame is fitted within an opening of a housing that holds the printed circuit board, the latch is pressed downwards to be fitted within the opening, and then the raised portion of the latch pops into a slot of the housing to thereby lock the connector in place within the housing. The connector can be easily de-coupled from the housing by a user pressing his or her fingertip against the raised portion of the latch, while pulling the connector out of the opening at the same time.

  • Patent number: 6761793
Abstract: A metallized composite includes a thermoplastic sheet and at least one discontinuous layer of metal within the thermoplastic sheet. The discontinuous metal layer can be disposed between two thermoplastic layers that are bound together, such as by melting the layers together, pressing, or by use of an adhesive. The metallized composites of the invention can be employed as reflective surfaces, such as are used as mirrors or substitutes for chrome trim on automobiles. A particularly preferred metal as a component of the discontinuous layer of the composite is indium.

  • Patent number: 6761116
Abstract: A high-precision pyrotechnic initiator is well adapted for rapid, precise ignition of solid and liquid energetics. A rigid housing, for example formed of an SiC-treated semiconductor substrate material, contains a pyrotechnic. When ignited, the reaction, or explosion, of the pyrotechnic is confined to the housing. The release of energy creates a hot particulate in which the formation of solid byproducts is mitigated or eliminated. The flame is directed through an outlet. In one embodiment, a microcapillary tube may be placed in communication with the outlet, the tube including a primary front vent and secondary side vents, which serve to increase system efficiency and reliability. A dual bridge wire may be provided for improving system reliability. The resulting assembly thereby performs the combined functions of both an igniter and a flash tube and a complete ignition train is provided in a manner that overcomes the limitations of the conventional configurations.

  • Patent number: 6758030
Abstract: A greensmower having a cutting reel and a traction member and an independent electric circuit and motor for driving each. A handle is attached to the reel for mower guidance by an operator in a walk-behind position. Separate electric controls are connected to each motor for separate speeds for each motor and thereby control the clip rate of the mowing. There are low battery power read-outs and automatic shutoffs. Provision is made for traction powering of the mower even when the reel motor is not operating because of low battery power. A lift-out battery pack is shiftably mounted on the mower for producing the desired force of the mower on the ground.

  • Publication number: 20040124567
Abstract: A connecting element of thermoplastic material is provided for connection to a hollow body, such as an insert for a fuel tank. The connecting element or insert has the form of a component which lines a connection opening of the hollow body and/or forms a seat for a connection element. The connecting element is produced by press shaping a laminate of thermoplastic material, preferably one which has low permeability for hydrocarbons by including at least one barrier layer in the laminate. The press shaping is carried out between two mating platens, preferably male and female mold portions. The laminate may be formed by co-extrusion of a multi-layer preform, preferably in the shape of a tube having oppositely disposed walls, which are pressed against each other in the press shaping step.

Abstract: The rescue boat has a hull with an upper deck area that includes bow and stern areas, port and starboard sides, a pilot house mounted upon the hull and extending above the upper deck area amidships. The pilot house has a deck, a front, a rear, side portions and a pilot house length measured from the front to the rear. A pair of rescue wells or recesses in the hull below the deck and inside of the hull port and starboard sides, each rescue well having a length. A majority of the length of each rescue well is in front of the rear of the pilot house. A propulsion system is provided for propelling the hull. The propulsion system preferably employs jet pumps that are positioned entirely above the keel of the hull. Stern buoyancy chambers are provided that add reserve buoyancy and add planing lift during acceleration to keep the nose down. These stern buoyancy chambers also provide standoff protection for the propulsion units when the vessel backs up.

  • Patent number: 6746192
Abstract: The present invention provides a tacking rivet for fastening work pieces together which have aligned apertures therethrough. The tacking rivet includes a head portion and an elongated sleeve portion extending from the head portion. Both the head portion and the sleeve portion have openings therethrough which are in alignment with one another. The tacking rivet further includes a plurality of rib portions positioned on an outer surface of the sleeve portion which are capable of engaging with walls of the apertures of the work pieces when the sleeve portion is expanded within the apertures of the work pieces. Because the rib portions engage with the walls of the apertures of the work pieces, the tacking rivet will not rotate within the apertures during a drilling operation to remove the tacking rivet from the apertures prior to the installation of a permanent fastener to fasten the work pieces together.

  • Patent number: 6735870
Abstract: A cutter for cutting cable, such as fiber optic cable, and a method of using same is provided. The cutter includes a pair of opposite members that are joined together at a joint such that the opposite members move in conjunction with each other. Each member has a handle on one side of the joint and a cutting blade on the opposite side of the joint. When the handles are forced together, the cutting blades are also forced together. The cutter also includes a clamping mechanism. The clamping mechanism is used to clamp the fiber optic cable on either side of the cutting blades such that the strength reinforcement strands of the fiber optic cable will be placed in tension, prior to the cutting of the strength reinforcement strands within the fiber optic cable, thereby ensuring a clean cut by the cutting blades.

  • Publication number: 20040091125
Abstract: An acoustic system has an acoustic sensor and a processing circuit. The acoustic sensor includes a base, a microphone having a microphone diaphragm supported by the base, and a hot-wire anemometer having a set of hot-wire extending members supported by the base. The set of hot-wire extending members defines a plane which is substantially parallel to the microphone diaphragm. The processing circuit receives a sound and wind pressure signal from the microphone and a wind velocity signal from the hot-wire anemometer, and provides an output signal based on the sound and wind pressure signal from the microphone and the wind velocity signal from the hot-wire anemometer (e.g., accurate sound with wind noise removed). The configuration of the hot-wire extending members defining a plane which is substantially parallel to the microphone diaphragm can be easily implemented in a MEMS device making the configuration suitable for miniaturized applications.
