Abstract: A spectacle lens can inhibit ametropia of the eyes and ensure full visibility. The spectacle lens comprises: first refraction areas and second refraction areas. Each first refraction area has a first refraction force that may be based on a prescription for correcting the ametropia of the eyes. Each second refraction area has a refraction force different from the first refraction force and may function to focus images on the positions except the retina of the eyes, to inhibit the development of the ametropia. Near the central part of the lens, the second refraction areas form a plurality of independent island-shaped areas, and the first refraction areas form the areas beyond the areas of the second refraction areas.

Abstract: A method for retarding or reversing progression of myopia of a viewer contains the steps of using an immersive or non-immersive device to create a plurality of image planes in the eye of the viewer. While an image plane is located on the retina, at least one image plane is not on the retina, thereby generating myopic defocus. Immersive and non-immersive devices and systems for such a method are also described.
Abstract: A triazole bridged flavonoid dimer compound library was efficiently constructed via the cycloaddition reaction of a series of flavonoid-containing azides (Az 1-15) and alkynes (Ac 1-17). These triazole bridged flavonoid dimers and their precursor alkyne- and azide-containing flavonoids were screened for their ability to modulate multidrug resistance (MDR) in P-gp-overexpressed cell line (LCC6MDR), MRP1-overexpressed cell line (2008/MRP1) and BCRP-overexpressed cell line (HEK293/R2 and MCF7-MX100). Generally, they displayed very promising MDR reversal activity against P-gp-, MRP1- and BCRP-mediated drug resistance. Moreover, they showed different levels of selectivity for various transporters. Overall, they can be divided into mono-selective, dual-selective and multi-selective modulators for the P-gp, MRP1 and BCRP transporters.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for synthesizing graphene/sulfur composite, involving the steps of mixing graphene oxide (GO) with a hydrogen sulfide (H2S)-releasing agent in a sealed vessel, causing the H2S-releasing agent to release hydrogen sulfide, and then allowing the hydrogen sulfide to react with the graphene oxide at an elevated temperature and pressure to form said graphene/sulfur composite.
Abstract: The present disclosure provides a cesium tungsten bronze-based self-cleaning nano heat-insulation coating material, and method of preparing the same. Cesium tungsten bronze nanoparticles are prepared by hydrothermal method using WCl6 and CsOH.5H2O as raw materials, PVP as a surfactant and acetic acid as an acid catalyst. TiO2 nanoparticles are prepared from TiCl4. Subsequently ball milling and dispersing of the cesium tungsten bronze nanoparticles, the TiO2 nanoparticles, and a silane coupling agent with water to obtain an aqueous slurry containing cesium tungsten bronze/TiO2 composite particles is performed. The concentration of the aqueous slurry containing cesium tungsten bronze/TiO2 composite particles is adjusted to obtain a self-cleaning nano heat-insulation coating material.

Abstract: An optical system including a layer having a reflective surface, the layer is adapted to provide a primary image and a secondary image. The secondary image is provided by a reflection of an object facing the reflective surface, and the primary and the secondary images are viewable by a viewer having a retina. The secondary image is focused in front of the retina to generate myopic defocus.
Abstract: A method for forming a structural-strain sensor network on a structure is provided. The sensor network has plural nanocomposite sensing elements having high sensitivity, and can be quickly fabricated. The method comprises attaching a molding layer having openings onto the surface, and filling the openings with a coating material made of nanocomposite hybrid material. After immobilizing the coating material in the openings, the sensing elements are formed and the molding layer is removed. Electrical wires are formed on the surface such that two opposite electrodes are formed on each sensing element. The resistance between the two electrodes indicates a strain experienced. The sensor network finds applications in identifying a damaged location or an impact location on the structure for structural health monitoring. Voltage waveforms measured at the sensing elements are analyzed to estimate the damaged location or the impact location according to a guided-wave propagation model.

Abstract: Filamenting temperature-sensitive mutant Z (FtsZ) protein plays a crucial role in the bacterial cell division machinery and is a validated drug target for antibacterial agents. The present invention relates to FtsZ-interacting compounds that possess a 2,4,6-trisubstituted pyrimidine scaffold. Some of these compounds possess potent anti-staphylococcal properties and potent antibacterial activities against clinically isolated MRSA strains. Compounds have been identified to exhibit low spontaneous frequency of resistance, low toxicity as well as the ability to rescue G. mellonella larvae infected with lethal dose of the MRSA ATCC 43300 strain. Characterization by saturation transfer difference NMR, light scattering assay and GTPase hydrolysis assay with purified S. aureus FtsZ protein verified the interaction of 2,4,6-trisubstituted pyrimidine with the FtsZ protein, further confirmed by observations of iconic filamentous cell phenotype and mislocalization of the Z-ring formation.
