Abstract: An improved heat engine that includes an organic refrigerant exhibiting a boiling point below ?35° C.; a heat source having a temperature of less than 82° C.; a heat sink; a sealed, closed-loop path for the organic refrigerant, the sealed, closed-loop path having both a high-pressure zone that absorbs heat from the heat source, and a low-pressure zone that transfers heat to the heat sink; a positive-displacement decompressor providing a pressure gradient through which the organic refrigerant in the gaseous phase flows continuously from the high-pressure zone to the low-pressure zone, the positive-displacement decompressor extracting mechanical energy due to the pressure gradient; and a positive-displacement hydraulic pump, which provides continuous flow of the organic refrigerant in the liquid phase from the low-pressure zone to the high-pressure zone, the hydraulic pump and the positive-displacement decompressor maintaining a pressure differential between the two zones of between about 20 to 42 bar.

Abstract: An adjustable dual-screen monitor stand includes a base member having an upright post, an upper bushing and a lower bushing mounted on the upright post at different elevations, a first cantilever swivel screen mount including a first lower swivel arm, a first upper swivel arm and a first screen holder pivotally coupled to one another and pivotally supported on the upper bushing to hold a first flat display monitor and to allow adjustment of the angular position of the supported first flat display monitor, and a second cantilever swivel screen mount including a second lower swivel arm, a second upper swivel arm and a second screen holder pivotally coupled to one another and pivotally supported on the lower bushing to hold a second flat display monitor and to allow adjustment of the angular position of the supported second flat display monitor.

Abstract: An optical multiplexer and methods of making and calibrating the same are disclosed. A method of aligning components in a multichannel optical/optoelectronic transmitter includes passively fixing a plurality of light emitters in place on a substrate; adjusting positions of a first lens passing light from a first light emitter and an optical signal transmission medium receiving the light from the first light emitter until a far field spot of the light from the first light emitter is at or near an end of the transmission medium; fixing one or more optical subassemblies on the substrate; and adjusting positions of the optical subassembly(ies) to align light from the remaining light emitters with the far field spot. Some embodiments include multiple optical subassemblies, each including a lens and a filter. Other embodiments include one optical subassembly including a mirror and a beam combiner.

Recovered asphalt binder with improved solubility, stiffening or softening, performance-enhancing and elastic characteristics for use as modifier to upgrade base/virgin asphalt and/or reduce polymer requirements and related methods are described. A recovered asphalt binder intermediately blended with one or more additives for use as filler to extend grade of base/virgin asphalt and related methods are described. Modified asphalt products made using a recovered asphalt binder and related methods are described.

Abstract: An N×N parallel optical transceiver includes a printed circuit board, a laser driving control chip, one or more lasers, two GRIN lenses, an optical band-pass filter, a multimode fiber array and a photodiode array. In the transmitter, laser beams of the same wavelength simultaneously output from the laser chip are first focused by the first GRIN lens, then the beams pass through a wavelength band-pass filter and are refocused by the second GRIN lens, and enter the channels in the multimode fiber array. In the receiver, laser beams of a different wavelength from the multimode fiber array are focused by the second GRIN lens, then reflected by the band-pass filter, refocused by the second GRIN lens, and received by the photodiode array. The multi-channel parallel transceiver has a small form, and can integrate a DFB or FP laser chip and GRIN lenses.

Abstract: An ear mount that is used to support one or more audio components proximate to a user's ear or head is disclosed. The ear mount can include one or more wire grooves to secure wires and/or the one or more audio components. The ear mount can be malleable so its shape can be customized for a given user. The ear mount can also be length alterable for customization of its size as well as placement of audio components. The ear mount also facilitates rapid setup and/or alteration for individual users whereby different audio components and/or their placement can be customized. The ear mount can also be colored or camouflaged to match the user's skin or clothing.

Abstract: A parallel charging and power supply system for a battery electric vehicle comprises a battery unit, a battery management system, a vehicle control unit, a motor controller and a motor, wherein a corresponding signal output end and a signal input end of the battery management system are respectively connected with a corresponding signal input end and a signal output end of the battery unit; the motor controller is respectively connected with a power output end of the battery unit, a power input end of the motor and a signal output end of the motor; a signal input end of the vehicle control unit is respectively connected with the corresponding signal output ends of the battery management system and the motor controller.

Abstract: A pipe lining assembly and a method for plugging a pipe line utilizing a pipe lining assembly are provided. The pipe lining assembly includes an inflatable bladder having a first end and a second end defining a cylindrical body, and a patch folded in a hat like shape disposed over the first end of the bladder. When the bladder is inflated inside a pipe line, the patch unfolds and plugs the pipe line i.e. stops fluid from flowing through the closed portion of the pipe line.

Abstract: A shelf display that is easily attached to a store merchandising fixture in a retail or wholesale environment is disclosed. It extends away from the merchandising fixture to increase visibility. The shelf display includes separate pieces that can be snapped together without the use of tools and provide flexibility in positioning the shelf display. A frame is mounted into a clip that slides along one edge of the frame. The clip is part of a ball joint so that the frame can be rotated or tilted. The ball joint attaches to an arm with breakaway lines so the length of the arm can be adjusted. The display may be formed in multiple sizes and shapes, and is oriented so that both sides of the shelf display can be used for graphic statements.

Abstract: An adjustable device for supporting a load includes a belt for fastening about a user's waist. A rod includes two rigid elements. One of the elements is longitudinally slidable relative to the other element so as to adjust a length of the rod. A lower end of the rod is attachable to the belt and an upper section of the rod is attachable to a shoulder harness that is placeable on the user's shoulders for carrying the load. A control is operable by the user when carrying the load to unlock a locking mechanism that, when locked, fixes the length of the rod. When the control is operated concurrently with movement of the user's shoulders relative to the user's waist, the length of the rod is changed to adjust a distribution of a weight of the load between the user's shoulders and waist.

Abstract: An isotope generation apparatus is disclosed including: an ion beam source of any of the types described herein; an extractor for extracting the ion beam from the confinement region, where the beam includes a portion of multiply ionized ions in a selected final ionization state; a target including a target material; and an accelerator for accelerating the ion beam and directing the ion beam to the target. The ion beam directed to the target transmutes at least a portion of the target material to a radio-isotope in response to a nuclear reaction between ions in the selected final ion state and atoms of the target material.

Abstract: An EMI shielding device for an optical transceiver is disclosed. The EMI shielding device includes a shell with an optical and electrical interfaces al opposed ends. The shell includes a base and an upper cover. The upper cover includes a plate having at least two flanks, each having a lateral plate that extends downward. The base includes a base plate having at least two flanks, each having a base side baffle. The upper covet plate is located between the base side baffles. The lower ends or surfaces of the upper cover lateral plates have serrations thereon. A conductive gasket under the serrations contacts the base. The conductive gasket and the serrations result in reliable multipoint contact between the upper cover lateral plates and the base, thereby providing reliable electrical continuity between the upper cover and the base, and reducing electromagnetic leakage.

Abstract: A dual-rate power point compensating circuit, comprising a microprocessor and a transmitter optical subsystem assembly (TOSA), wherein the TOSA includes a laser connected to a laser driver, a monitor photodiode (MPD) connected to the laser driver, and a current divider connected to the microprocessor and the MPD. When a feedback current from the MPD exceeds the adjustable and/or operating range of the laser driver, the feedback current is reduced so that it is kept in the adjustable and/or operating range of the laser driver. The laser driver determines the optical output power of the laser from the value of the reduced feedback current. The circuit and method extend the adjustable and/or operating range of a laser driver and enable it to regulate a target optical output power of the laser with a broad testing range and high accuracy when the feedback current is relatively high.

Abstract: A DC level detection circuit between high speed signal line connecting ports and a system using the same in optical communications is disclosed. Corresponding ports of a high speed signal line each have an additional resistor, where one additional resistor has a resistance significantly greater than that of the other resistor. The smaller resistor is grounded. The larger resistor is connected to a DC voltage source, a low pass filter, and a signal detection port. Thus, when both ports of the high speed signal line are connected, a status of the electrical level detected at the signal detection port changes. The circuit detects the connection state of the high speed signal line without negative effects on signal transmission and is applicable to various circuits, especially plug-in modules and corresponding slots. Thus, the circuit further enables signal port multifunctionality, increases module installation accuracy, and provides higher compatibility for plug-in modules.

Abstract: An irradiation apparatus with a limited swivel rotator includes a drive ring and at least one mount affixed thereto. The drive ring has a defined drive axis of rotation being configured to rotate about a source container, like an X-ray tube. The mounts are affixed to the drive ring. Each of the mounts is configured to mount a material holder to the drive ring for rotating the material holder about the source container. The limited swivel rotator is in communication with each of the mounts and is configured to maintain a radial planetary position of the mounts and the material holders mounted thereto to maintain an initial horizontal orientation of the mounts and the material holders mounted thereto on the drive ring as the mounts and the material holders mounted thereto are moved around the source container by the drive ring.
