  • Publication number: 20090234823
Abstract: A method and system for providing remote access to heterogeneous information sources from computing devices including but not limited to personal computers, laptop computers, PDAs, cellular telephones is presented. A middle-tier server is provided in a multi-tier environment for allowing a data-centric approach to accessing, modifying and updating content located at remote data sources. The middle-tier server provides functionality for a mobile (or similar) user to perform a search query, request for document and/or data, update remote data, and perform commands on remote data sources. In addition, the middle-tier server manages the authentication of the user in sessioned or sessionless mode. In particular, search query results are processed such that the results answer a search query. That is, rather than simply providing a list of document matches, the middle-tier server extracts information from the document that answers the search query most appropriately.

  • Patent number: 7586961
Abstract: A laser system 1 comprises six solid state diode laser modules 37.1 to 37.6 whose output beams are directly coupled into beam steering devices 38.1 to 38.6 and thereby routed to laser combining dichroic mirrors 39.1 to 39.6, which combine the individual laser beams into a single, co-aligned beam. The combined laser beam is directed into an optical fiber 41.1 for delivery to a target optical instrument such as a microscope. The output beam from delivery optical fiber 41.1 is coupled to the target instrument via fiber output collimating optics 42.1. The output of each of the diode lasers 37.1 to 37.6 is controlled by direct modulation of the lasers' control (drive) currents.

  • Patent number: 7587381
Abstract: An electronic document is parsed to remove irrelevant text and to identify the significant elements of the retained text. The elements are assigned scores representing their significance to the topical content of the document. A matrix of element-pairs is constructed such that the matrix nodes represent the result of one or more functions of the scores and other attributes of the paired elements. The resulting matrix is a compact representation of topical content that affords great precision in information retrieval applications that depend on measurements of the relatedness of topical content.

  • Publication number: 20090215853
Abstract: A method and composition for preventing prostate cancer and/or reducing PSA levels and/or alleviating the symptoms of BPH (Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia) or PIN (prostatic intraepithelial neoplasia) by administration of an effective amount of a mixture of flavopereirine and alstonine. A method and composition for treating low-grade prostate cancer and preventing the onset of metastatic disease and/or reducing the doubling time of PSA levels in men with positive biopsies showing relatively low Gleason scores and morphologies characteristic of non-invasive, slow-progressing prostate cancer. The flavopereirine and alstonine can be in the form of natural extracts derived from Pao Pereira and Rauwolfia Vomitoria, respectively. Alternatively, these two active compounds can be administered in purified form. The composition can be in included in a kit along with instructions for use in a treatment regimen.

  • Patent number: 7569981
Abstract: An ultraviolet gas discharge lamp having contact pins extending downward from a base cap toward an opposing end. The lamp is placed within a conduit or duct for disinfecting air or water flowing within the conduit. The reverse contact pins that extend toward the opposing end mate with contact holes in a socket attached to the conduit through which the lamp is inserted. The lamp is only energized when the lamp is fully inserted into the duct and is de-energized upon removing the lamp from the duct. A shield protects the pins. A window may be place in the base cap so as to visually confirm that the lamp is energized and radiating. A key and mating receiver may be used on the base cap and the socket so as to prevent accidental insertion of an inappropriate lamp.

  • Patent number: 7568447
Abstract: A teat locating sensor for use in farming equipment such as robotic milking machines and teat disinfection units. One or more cameras capture an image of the udder. The captured image is processed by applying an edge detector to provide an edge image. A Hough transform is applied for detecting edges using semi-circles and near vertical forms. A feature detector then matches these to provide teat ends and teat sides and thus produces a teat location map. Colour or monochrome cameras can be used and a 2D or 3D map can be generated. Filtering is described to improve the accuracy if required.

  • Publication number: 20090144985
Abstract: The present invention provides a fold knife comprising a handle and a blade hinged to the handle. The fold knife further comprises a switch mechanism for manual and semi-automatic operation which is positioned in the inner chamber of the handle. The switch mechanism for manual and semi-automatic operation has a first position in which it is allowed to manually open the blade from the handle and a second position in which it is allowed to automatically open the blade from the handle. The fold knife according to the present invention is capable of easily switching between the manual operation condition and the semi-automatic operation condition by means of the switch mechanism for manual and semi-automatic operation, so as to satisfy various requirements of a user where, on one hand, it can guarantee the safety in use for the users such as a kid and on the other hand it can obtain the facilitation in the opening procedure.

  • Patent number: 7545589
Abstract: A manipulator system 10 comprises a manipulator 14 which includes two pairs of adjustment screws 18a, 18b and 19a, 19b, which can be used to displace a lens group assembly 11 relative to the longitudinal axis of the manipulator when the lens group assembly 11 is inserted within the manipulator 14. The lens group assembly 11 comprises a holder 22 in the form of a hollow, cylindrical tube that has mounted in two lenses 12, 13. The holder 22 has a throughbore through which a laser beam may be passed in use. The manipulator system 10 can be used to adjust the tilt and displacement of the holder 22 (and hence of the pair of lenses 12, 13). Such adjustment will cause a laser beam passing through the manipulator system 10 and holder 22 to have, e.g., a particular pointing direction and shape when exiting the lens group assembly 11.

  • Publication number: 20090122982
Abstract: A system for providing digital rights management of protected content includes a client and a DRM manager. The client is capable of receiving at least one piece of content, the piece(s) of content being encrypted with at least one encryption key regardless of client user(s) authorized to access the piece(s) of encrypted content. To facilitate the client accessing one or more of the piece(s) of content, the DRM manager is capable of transferring the encryption key(s) to the client, the encryption key(s) being encrypted with a private key of a public key/private key pair unique to a client user associated with the client. The client can thereafter decrypt the encryption key(s) using the public key of the public key/private key pair unique to the client user. Then, the client can decrypt the piece(s) of content using the decrypted encryption key(s), and access the decrypted piece(s) of content.
