  • Patent number: 11406541
Abstract: A wound dressing is made from a tubular inner layer and at least one outer layer disposed radially beyond the inner layer. The inner layer permits egress of fluid from weeping wounds, prevents desiccation of skin disposed beneath the inner layer, and prevents desiccation of ointment disposed between the inner layer and the skin. The at least one outer layer absorbs fluids that leak through the inner layer, protects the inner layer from outside contaminants, and prevents fluids from escaping. The at least one outer layer is affixed to the inner layer, and each of the layers is elastic in at least the radial direction. Optionally, a layer of ointment may be applied to an inner surface of the inner layer. Note that the tubular inner layer may be either pre-formed or formed at the time of application.

Abstract: Methods and systems for automating carbon footprinting are disclosed. In some embodiments, the methods include a plurality of steps. In some embodiments, related to predetermined resources associated with an item from predetermined data sources is obtained. Then, estimated emission factors are calculated for each of the resources. Next, a contributory uncertainty of the data and of the emission factors is determined. Then, a user is guided based on a comparison of the respective contributory uncertainty of data related to the resources or emission factors. Next, both data related to the resources and the estimated emission factors of the resources are utilized to determine a carbon footprint of the item.

  • Publication number: 20220194823
Abstract: A system for treatment of brines includes one or more membrane-less electrolyzers. An influent flow chamber flows an influent stream to a porous anode and cathode. electrochemical reactions at the anode and cathode result in acidic and alkaline effluent streams respectively, including liquid and gaseous streams. The alkaline effluent can be combined with a brine feed stream, resulting in precipitation of alkali earth metals cations by reaction with hydroxyls to form alkali earth metal hydroxides (M(OH)2, M=Mg2+, Ca2+). These M(OH)2 are of interest as a carbon-free feedstock material for cement manufacturing. Additionally, carbon dioxide, such as from flue gas, can be combined with the alkaline effluent to form alkali earth metal carbonates or be concentrated and released upon neutralization of carbon dioxide saturated alkaline effluent with the acidic effluent.
