  • Patent number: 8895715
Abstract: Isolated polynucleotides comprising an S100B promoter are provided, where an S100B regulatory element is operably joined to an S100B basal promoter utilizing a non-native spacing between the promoter and regulatory elements. The promoter may be operably linked to an expressible sequence, e.g. reporter genes, genes encoding a polypeptide of interest, regulatory RNA sequences such as miRNA, siRNA, anti-sense RNA, etc., and the like. In some embodiments a cell comprising a stable integrant of an expression vector is provided, which may be integrated in the genome of the cell. The promoter may also be provided in a vector, for example in combination with an expressible sequence. The polynucleotides find use in a method of expressing a sequence of interest, e.g. for identifying or labeling cells, monitoring or tracking the expression of cells, etc.

  • Publication number: 20140344963
Abstract: A spermatogonial stem cell line that is derived from testes of rats characterized by a desirable genetic background can serve as a source for cells to transplant into male-sterile recipient animals that are immuno-compatible with the spermatogonial line. Rat cells thus transplanted readily develop into fertilization-competent, haploid male gametes, with little or no endogenous sperm competition generated by the testes of the male-sterile recipient. This approach, constituting the first vector system for the use of rat spermatogonial lines from in vitro culture in generating mutant rats on a desired genetic background, effects maximal germline transmission of donor haplotypes from the transplanted spermatogonial cells.

  • Publication number: 20140343373
Abstract: To propose an oral cavity sensor capable of analyzing tongue movements in more detail than before. In an oral cavity sensor (1) which is even provided with a sensor element (7) having a mechanical configuration capable of measuring each of external force components in three axis directions, the sensor element (7) can be protected by an elastic body (9), and the whole of the elastic body (9) is covered with the coating film (11a) made of a biocompatible material. Thereby, the sensor element (7) and the elastic body (9) can be safely attached in an oral cavity (MT) of a subject (EXA), and can measure each of the external force components in the three axis directions. As a result, on the basis of the external force components in the three axis directions, complicated tongue movements at the time of mastication or swallowing in the oral cavity (MT) can be analyzed in more detail than before.

  • Patent number: 8890894
Abstract: An image mosaic is created from overlapping images. A first seam is shown between a first pair of overlapping images such that, on a first side, a first image of the first pair is shown, and on a second side, a second image of the first pair is shown. The first seam includes a plurality of pixels in the image mosaic. An indicator of an interaction with the image mosaic is received. The indicator indicates that the user has selected a pixel of the plurality of pixels of the first seam and has moved the selected pixel to a first location within an overlapping region between the first pair of overlapping images. A second seam that includes the first location is computed. The image mosaic including the second seam is presented. The second seam replaces at least a portion of the first seam in the image mosaic.
