Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a pre-5th-Generation (5G) or 5G communication system for supporting higher data rates beyond 4th-Generation (4G) communication system such as Long Term Evolution (LTE). A performance of the existing sliding-window superposition coding (SWSC) is degraded when a wireless channel state is changed due to a large scale fading and a small scale fading. In addition, the performance of the existing SWSC is degraded when channel state information at a receiver is different from that of the real channel. To resolve these problems, a transmitter applies an accurate data transmission rate suitable for a channel state. Therefore, a receiver applies an adaptive SWSC and to reduce a block error rate (BLER) and a hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ) overhead of the receiver. In addition, to resolve wireless channel state change due to large and small scale fading, the transmitter may use the adaptive transmission method.

Abstract: In various aspects, methods and apparatuses for liquid-liquid extraction are provided. In certain aspects, an emulsion can be formed by combining a feed stream, an extractant, and a surfactant. The feed stream comprises a plurality of distinct components including a first component to be removed therefrom. The feed stream may be selected from a group consisting of: a hydrocarbon feed stream and an azeotrope. Then, a portion of the first component is extracted from the feed stream (or emulsion) by contact with a superoleophobic and hygroscopic membrane filter that facilitates passage of the first component and extractant through the superoleophobic and hygroscopic membrane filter. A purified product is collected having the portion of the first component removed. Such methods are particularly useful for refining fuels and oils and separating azeotropes and other miscible component systems. Energy-efficient, continuous single unit operation apparatuses for conducting such separation techniques are also provided.

Abstract: The present invention relates to improved ion mobility analysis (IMA) methods that can accurately quantify particle concentration in a sample solution. Specifically, reference particles of known solution-phase concentration are used for calibration. In addition, by exploiting spectral deconvolution techniques, the concentrations of subpopulations within the particles can also be accurately quantified. The improved IMA methods permit, for the first time, the quantification of absolute concentrations of HDL particles and subpopulations thereof in a biological sample. The correlations of HDL particle concentrations and conditions such as LCAT deficiency and cardiovascular diseases have been established. Accordingly, the present invention also provide methods to determine whether a subject is at risk to develop or is suffering from these conditions by using HDL particle concentration as a clinical metric.
