Abstract: A method for automated lane centering and/or lane changing purposes for a vehicle traveling on a roadway that employs roadway points from a map database to determine a reference vehicle path and sensors on the vehicle for detecting static and moving objects to adjust the reference path. The method includes reducing the curvature of the reference path to generate a reduced curvature reference path that reduces the turning requirements of the vehicle and setting the speed of the vehicle from posted roadway speeds from the map database. The method also includes providing multiple candidate vehicle paths and vehicle speeds to avoid the static and moving objects in front of the vehicle.

Abstract: A diaphragm respiratory signal simulator is activated by skin voltage that is coupled to the simulator by many ways such as but not limited to a user sliding a finger over a conductive surface, the user sliding a finger over surfaces close to the conductive element, touch or sliding the finger over the ventilator screen. The conductive surface is electrically connected to a ring electrode at a distal part of a manikin's esophagus. The diaphragm respiratory signal simulator produces a synthetic diaphragm electrical signal that triggers a ventilator to deliver a supported breath, which is proportional to the strength of the generated signal. This process allows safe and successful training on the operations of NAVA mode of ventilation and catheter positioning.
Abstract: In a vehicle-to-vehicle wireless communication system utilizing certificates to verify trustworthiness of received communications, a method for distributing a list of certificate revocations to vehicles in the communication system. At least one main station transmits a list of certificate revocations to at least one vehicle and the vehicle thereafter transmits the list of certificate revocations to other vehicles in the communication network. Each of the other vehicles in the communication network updates its list of certificate revocations in response to the receipt of the list of certificate revocations from another vehicle in the system. The other vehicles thereafter transmit their updated list of certificate revocations to other vehicles in the system.

Abstract: The method for chemical vapor identification using swelling-based sensors uses an apparatus that having a first gas chamber including a gas inlet port for inletting a hydrocarbon vapor to be analyzed; a second gas chamber having a hydrocarbon vapor outlet port for exiting the vapor; a chemical sensor placed inside the first and the second gas chambers; and a thermometer placed inside the first and the second gas chambers for measuring the internal temperature; wherein the second gas chamber is placed at a lower temperature compared with the first chamber; and wherein the first gas chamber is in communication with the second chamber by a pipe for transmitting the hydrocarbon vapor from the first chamber to the second chamber.
Abstract: Stream-switching techniques are applied in a content delivery system. A merge frame is generated as a function of bit-rates, distortion, and a piecewise constant operator. Parameters of the piecewise constant operator are selected to optimize the merge frame. Data streams are switched based on bandwidth requirements, switch requests, and throughput of a network. Images are reconstructed based on the merge frames and prediction frames. Reconstructed images are identically reconstructed for any prediction frame based on the merge frame.

Abstract: The present invention provides compositions and methods for programming mammalian cells to perform desired functions. In particular, the present invention provides compositions and methods for programming stem cells to differentiate into a desired cell type. A quorum sensing systems that regulates the expression of cell fate regulators is introduced into mammalian host cells, such as stem cells. The quorum sensing systems generally comprises vectors that express the components of a bacterial quorum sensing pathway, including proteins which catalyze the synthesis of an autoinducer and a gene encoding a regulatory partner of the autoinducer, and vectors in which genes encoding cell fate regulators are operably linked to a promoter induced by the autoinducer/regulatory partner complex.
