  • Patent number: 11386510
Abstract: The present invention provides a method and system and software that allow users to readily access online legal research tools, while using other applications, such as word processors. One exemplary computer-implemented system provide an add-on software framework that integrates into a host word-processing application on a client access device. The add-on software framework allows users to select from an expandable listing of one or more web applications on a web server, with each of the web application capable of controlling operation of the host word processing application. The web applications facilitate extraction and access to information from the information-retrieval services as well as secondary source reference texts and incorporation of the information in the document or in metadata associated with the document.

  • Patent number: 11222027
Abstract: The present disclosure relates to methods and systems for providing context aware searching using concept markers. Embodiments provide concept markers configured to facilitate the identification and refinement of relevant content associated with a query with a high degree of precision. In embodiments, in response to a user query, documents and concept markers relevant to the query are determined. The identified documents are associated with the concept markers and are ranked based on the quality of the association. Upon a user selecting at least one of the concept markers, the search results are refined in response. The refining includes re-ranking the documents based on a combination of the original query and the selected concept marker. The suggested concept markers are similarly re-ranked. The disclosed techniques provide for a high precision identification of relevant content as well as high precision refining of the search results.

  • Patent number: 11182539
Abstract: In some aspects, a method includes extracting sentences from data corresponding to documents. Each extracted sentence includes at least one matched pair (a keyword from a first or second keyword set and an entity from an entity set). The method includes ordering the plurality of extracted sentences based on a distance between a respective keyword and a respective entity in each extracted sentence. The method includes identifying a first type and a second type of extracted sentences from the ordered plurality of extracted sentences. Sentences having the first type include keywords of the first keyword set. Sentences having the second type include keywords of the second keyword set. The method includes generating an extracted summary including at least one sentence having the first type and at least one sentence having the second type, intermixed based on a predetermined order rule set. The method includes outputting the extracted summary.

  • Patent number: 11106664
Abstract: The present disclosure relates to systems and methods for generating contextually, grammatically, and conversationally correct answers to input questions. Embodiments provide for linguistic and syntactic structure analysis of a submitted question in order to determine whether the submitted question may be answered by at least one headnote. The question is then further analyzed to determine more details about the intent and context of the question. A federated search process, based on the linguistic and syntactic structure analysis, and the additional analysis of the question is used to identify candidate question-answer pairs from a corpus of previously created headnotes. Machine learning models are used to analyze the candidate question-answer pairs, additional rules are applied to rank the candidate answers, and dynamic thresholds are applied to identify the best potential answers to provide to a user as a response to the submitted question.

  • Patent number: 10963837
Abstract: Legal professionals often conduct online research as part of their efforts to produce documents, such as legal briefs. The present inventor recognized that online research tools and desktop applications, such as word processors, are functionally isolated from each other, forcing users to awkwardly switch between them as they work. Accordingly, the inventor devised, among other things, an exemplary toolbar that resides adjacent an active application window, such as a word processor. In operation, a user selects one or portions of text, such as a name or fact pattern, in the window, and activates the toolbar using a right-click command. Upon activation, a customizable menu is displayed, enabling the user to select from one or more listed workflow tasks and ultimately to cause an online research system to return search results based on the task and text selections.

Embodiments provide a system including a column mapping module to receive a target scheme specifying a target structure for the target document, receive transaction data having a source structure, and map at least one source column to at least one target column of the target columns based on application of classification algorithms to features identified from the source transaction data. The system also includes a row classification module to classify the rows of the mapped transaction data into classification categories. The system also includes a validation handler to receive validation input from a user, validating the column mapping and/or the row classification. The validating including accepting the recommendation or rejecting the recommendation and selecting a correct choice.
