Abstract: Systems and techniques are disclosed to rank documents by analyzing a query log generated by a search engine. The query log includes data relating to user behavior, queries and documents. The systems and techniques distill query log information into surrogate documents and extract features from these surrogate documents to rank the documents.

Abstract: The present inventors devised, among other things, systems, methods, and software that allow users to readily access online legal research tools, while using other applications, such as word processors. One exemplary computer-implemented system provide an add-on software framework that integrates into a host word-processing application on a client access device. The add-on software framework allows users to select from an expandable listing of one or more web applications on a web server, with each of the web application capable of controlling operation of the host word processing application. The web applications facilitate extraction and access to information from the information-retrieval services and incorporation of the information in the document or in metadata associated with the document.

Abstract: Within the financial-services industry, there are online centers that allow brokers to match sellers with buyers of financial instruments based on indications of interest. To follow up on these indications of interest, users of such centers are now using proprietary instant-messaging (IM) systems, which allow them to instantaneously exchange text messages over the Internet with other users. The present inventor recognized that these communications are often inconvenient because the IM programs are isolated from the financial information. Accordingly, he devised systems, methods, and software that integrate IM and other communications-related functions into financial-data displays. Ultimately, one of more of these or other embodiments promise improved efficiency and convenience of online interactions not only for financial trading partners and others in the financial-services industry, but also for those in any private, public, and commercial domain where rapid or convenient online communication is desirable.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a computer-based system for supporting Product Customer Support Systems by means for parameter-free and fully unsupervised: clustering of a selected set documents (e.g., based on a query from some database) with unknown ontology (e.g., cases from Customer Support System); building a taxonomy for sets of documents with unknown ontology/taxonomy; enabling a semi-supervised tagging/navigation/recommendations for documents and cross-learning using auxiliary sources (e.g., linking other fields/metadata in Customer Support Systems such as Knowledge DataBase).

Abstract: A system to determine the tax consequences for one or several special apportionment accounts is described. The example system may include a data collector and an optimizer. The data collector may be configured to obtain information associated with one or more accounts, and a selection of one or more jurisdictions. The optimizer may be configured to automatically determine a suggested combination of special apportionment methods for each jurisdiction.

Abstract: The present invention provides an accounting gateway for facilitating and effecting translation and efficient data transfer between an accounting system and a plurality of client systems operating a variety of external bookkeeping solutions. The gateway brokers data exchanges between an accounting firm and its clients by translating data records associated with a client bookkeeping solution and in an external format into a format for use by an accounting software at the accounting system, such as for generating reports, financial statements and other processes and uses. An accounting system communicates with one or more client systems via a communications link to import, export or access data records between the entities to enhance provision of professional services.

Abstract: The present inventor devised, among other things, an information retrieval system that determines whether a query is ambiguous or not and based on this determination either continues or aborts a search process. One query evaluation extracts word pairs from an input query and uses features of the extracted word pairs, for example the number of word pairs and their frequencies within a document collection, to determine if the query is ambiguous or not. Another evaluation measures topical convergence, using query related caselaw headnotes that are associated with topics in a legal taxonomy. And yet another checks topical convergence through the lens of full caselaw documents and secondary legal documents, such as law review articles, specifically the minimum number of case law and secondary legal documents that are necessary to span a set of top ranked topics identified using the query.

Abstract: In embodiments, a message retriever accesses a plurality of messages and a message filter identifies, within the accessed messages, a set predictive messages. The risk/return-related messages are analyzed to identify associated return advisors. The return advisors are evaluated and ranked according to advisor scores, and risk/return-related decisions referenced in the messages are also identified, evaluated, and ranked. The ranked return advisors and decisions are used to facilitate assessment of future performance of an item or entity.

Abstract: The present invention is directed towards systems and methods for conducting legal research across multiple jurisdictions, which comprises receiving a first user search query at a graphical user interface comprising one or more search terms, executing the first search query against a first jurisdictional database and identifying one or more search results that are responsive to the first search query. Upon receiving a selected search result, a modified search query is generated comprising the one or more search terms of the first search query and one or more relevant terms from the selected search result and is executed against a second jurisdictional database. One or more secondary search results that are responsive to the modified search query are identified and then presented at the graphical user interface.

Abstract: A computer implemented method for mining supply chain information to produce supply chain graphs includes receiving by a computer a set of data; identifying a supplier, a commodity, and a customer from the set of data; generating a query comprising the identified data; determining the absence of any of the supplier, the commodity, or the customer from the set of data; if any items are determined to be absent from the set of data, substituting a placeholder for the missing item from the data set; sending the query; receiving a set of supply chain graph information; generating a supply chain graph signal based upon the set of supply chain graph information; and transmitting the supply chain graph signal. Abstract: An embodiment of a method of providing identity services includes: receiving identity data for an individual for which the identity provider has provided an identity; generating a transaction to store an identifier representing the identity data in a data structure on a blockchain of a distributed system; sending the transaction to at least one node of the distributed system; and generating an identity token incorporating the identifier representing the identity data. An embodiment of a method of verifying an identity includes: receiving data extracted from the identity token, wherein the extracted data includes an identifier representing the identity data; determining whether a data structure containing the extracted identifier representing the identity data is stored on a blockchain of a distributed system; and outputting an indication of a validity of an identity associated with the identity data based on the determination.

Abstract: Systems and techniques for exploring relationships among entities are disclosed. The systems and techniques provide an entity-based information analysis and content aggregation platform that uses heterogeneous data sources to construct and maintain an ecosystem around tangible and logical entities. Entities are represented as vertices in a directed graph, and edges are generated using entity co-occurrences in unstructured documents and supervised information from structured data sources. Significance scores for the edges are computed using a method that combines supervised, unsupervised and temporal factors into a single score. Important entity attributes from the structured content and the entity neighborhood in the graph are automatically summarized as the entity fingerprint. Entities may be compared to one another based on similarity of their entity fingerprints. An interactive user interface is also disclosed that provides exploratory access to the graph and supports decision support processes.

Abstract: Systems and techniques are disclosed for dynamically generating functions. The systems and techniques may be utilized to access and display information from a data store accessible to a spreadsheet-based application or program over a network. A web service is also provided that interprets data requests received from the spreadsheet-based application or program in one format, such as a natural language format, and translates the requests into syntactically correct functions with parameters for automatic execution by the spreadsheet-based application or program.

Abstract: The present invention is directed towards systems and methods for conducting prospective legal research, which comprises receiving an initiated user question at a graphical user interface comprising one or more search terms and performing query expansion on the received search query. One or more documents that are responsive to the expanded search query are then identified, and from the set of responsive documents, a subset of documents that reference future development are then identified. The one or more responsive documents that reference future development are grouped into one or more document clusters and a topic is identified for each of the one or more document clusters. The one or more document clusters and the associated topics are then presented at the graphical user interface.

Abstract: A method for providing a search result includes receiving a user query and determining, in response to receiving the user query, a set of segment candidates based on the user query and an indexing structure. The indexing structure is associated with at least one segment constraint. The method further includes ranking the set of segment candidates and providing a result associated with the set of segment candidates. Another method includes ranking each segment within the set of segment candidates based on a set of prioritized features. Another method has the at least one segment constraint including at least one of a critical keyword and an exclusionary keyword. Another method further includes excluding a segment based on the at least one segment constraint comprising the exclusionary keyword.

Abstract: The present inventors devised, among other things, an online legal research system with improved user controls. One exemplary system allows users to enter a query in a query input region that automatically expands to accommodate the length of the query field. The exemplary system also responds to the query by automatically directing it to an appropriate database, saving the user from having to choose among the myriad databases within the system. The exemplary system also provides user-specific folders for not only selected documents or excerpts from documents, but also annotating these documents with notes. The system enables the user to determine whether to make the notes private or publicly available.

Abstract: A neural paraphrase generator receives a sequence of tuples comprising a source sequence of words, each tuple comprising word data element and structured tag element representing a linguistic attribute about the word data element. An RNN encoder receives a sequence of vectors representing a source sequence of words, and RNN decoder predicts a probability of a target sequence of words representing a target output sentence based on a recurrent state in the decoder. An input composition component includes a word embedding matrix and a tag embedding matrix, and receives and transforms the input sequence of tuples into a sequence of vectors by 1) mapping word data elements to word embedding matrix to generate word vectors, 2) mapping structured tag elements to tag embedding matrix to generate tag vectors, and 3) concatenating word vectors and tag vectors.

Abstract: The invention relates to improved computer systems that mitigate the effects of computational incongruencies of computers connected to an Electronic Trading Venue (“ETV”) based on selection of orders, received at the electronic training venue via a network from the computers, using randomization and delay-free mechanisms. To address High Frequency Trading and improve the efficiency of the computer system of an ETV, the system may immediately, without introducing a batching or randomization delay, place maker orders into an electronic order book. If a taker order is received that is price-compatible with previously received maker orders in the electronic order book, the system may batch the maker orders in the electronic order book for randomization.
