Abstract: When map data is to be processed for display in a mapping or navigation apparatus, the application processor (705) of the apparatus first checks to see whether any existing data in a local cache memory (706) represents a similar map part to the new data that is to be processed. This is done by means of a similarity analysis (601). If the map data already in the cache (706) is determined to be sufficiently similar to the map data that is to be displayed, new map data from a main map storage (230) is not loaded and processed, but instead the existing data in the cache (706) is processed for display of the map part in question. This has the benefit of a reduced system load, since already processed data does not need to be reloaded and reprocessed.
Abstract: A data storage system comprises a data storage device (2) that comprises a first file system (4) of a first type and a second file system (70, 72, 74, 76, 78) of a second, different type, and a file system control means (92) for controlling file system operations, wherein the file system control means (92) is configured to receive requests to write files to the first or second file systems, and to write to the second file system (70, 72, 74, 76, 78) in response to substantially all requests to write files that have at least one predetermined file name property to the first or second file system.

Abstract: A method is disclosed involving receiving GPS data from persona portable training devices of users when traversing an off-road segment of an electronic map together with associated data indicative of a heart rate of a user during the movements. The position and heart rate data for each user traversing the segment are processed using data indicative of a fitness profile for the user. The resulting data is used to determine a normalized cost to be associated with the segment, indicative of the difficulty in traversing the segment. The cost data is generated using a neural network. The resulting cost data for different segments in a network of segments is used to generate route suggestions for users based upon desired workout intensity, fitness levels, etc.
Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention relate to a route-planning device (200;302) comprising a storage section (230;308) storing map information, the map information including information identifying a plurality of potential positions, each potential position corresponding to a position at which a location of a predetermined type might potentially be found; and a search route module (490) arranged to determine a search route visiting at least one of the potential positions, the determination of the search route using a predetermined efficiency measure based on likelihood of finding a location of the predetermined type.
Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention provide a method of determining a heading of travel of a navigation device, comprising determining a reference heading for a roadway system and determining a current heading of navigation device travel, wherein the current heading is determined as an integer multiple of a predetermined lock angle in combination with the reference heading.
Abstract: A navigation apparatus comprises a processing resource operably coupled to a receiver for location-related data and arranged to perform, when in use, location determination. The processing resource supports a parking location determination module the parking location determination module is arranged to determine when the location determined is substantially unchanged and to determine that the location determined constitutes a candidate parking location in response to the location determined remaining substantially unchanged relative to a predetermined period of time.
Abstract: A navigation apparatus comprises a processing resource arranged to support, when in use, an operational environment, the operational environment supporting a route calculator, a time estimation module, a route segmentation module and a weather data processing engine. A map database comprising geospatial data is also provided. The route calculator is arranged to calculate, when in use, a route between a first location and a second location. The time estimation module is arranged to estimate a time at which a user will be present at a location along the route. The route segmentation module arranged to divide the route into a plurality of route parts and to obtain from the time estimation module at least one time of presence associated with at least one of the plurality of route parts, respectively. The weather data processing engine arranged to provide weather data associated with a route part of the plurality of route parts in respect of the time of presence associated with the route part.
Abstract: A navigation device has a route re-calculation function. This is activated by the user touching the screen to task away from the normal navigation map mode to a menu screen which displays multiple types of route re-calculation options.

Abstract: A signal propagation system for communicating timing information comprises a processing resource (300) arranged to generate a first timing signal for communicating the timing information, the first timing signal having a first frequency spectrum associated therewith. An electronic circuit (110) is provided having an input for receiving the timing information. An electrical connection (310) between the processing resource (300) and the electronic circuit (110) is also provided. A signal transformation module (304) for communicating the timing information, and the signal transformation module (304) is arranged to translate the first timing signal into a second timing signal for communicating the timing information. The second timing signal has a second frequency spectrum associated therewith that comprises fewer harmonics than the first timing signal, thereby reducing electromagnetic energy emitted by the electrical connection.
