  • Patent number: 4479184
Abstract: An intake system of an engine comprising a main intake passage which has a throttle valve therein. The throttle valve is controlled by a main actuator. An auxiliary intake passage is branched off from the main intake passage located upstream of the throttle valve and is connected to the main intake passage located downstream of the throttle valve. An auxiliary valve, controlled by a subactuator, is arranged in the auxiliary intake passage. The vehicle speed is controlled by the main actuator when the vehicle speed is too increased or too reduced relative to a set speed to be maintained. Contrary to this, the vehicle speed is controlled by the subactuator when the vehicle speed is maintained at a speed near the set speed.

  • Patent number: 4476828
Abstract: An engine has a main intake passage having a throttle valve therein. A bypass passage is branched off from the main intake passage located upstream of the throttle valve and is connected to the main intake passage located downstream of the throttle valve. A flow control valve, actuated by a stepper motor, is arranged in the bypass passage. When the idling speed of the engine is increased beyond a predetermined upper limit of the engine speed, the stepper motor is rotated in a rotating direction wherein the flow area of the flow control valve is reduced. Contrary to this, when the idling speed of the engine is reduced below a predetermined lower limit of the engine speed, the stepper motor is rotated in a direction wherein the flow area of the flow control valve is increased.

  • Patent number: 4476970
Abstract: A direct coupled clutch is provided in parallel to a fluid type torque converter in an automatic transmission, and supply of oil pressure to a hydraulic servo of the direct coupled clutch is controlled by an electromagnetic valve. Alteration of engaging condition of engaging elements in a transmission gear is carried out by maintaining the direct coupled clutch in the disengaging condition. As a result, difference of torque between the engine side of the engaging elements and the drive wheel side, which difference is produced in the speed change, is absorbed by the fluid type torque converter so that impact is restrained.

  • Patent number: 4474081
Abstract: In an altimetric compensation apparatus and method for a speed change pattern of an automatic transmission, first to third memory locations corresponding respectively to idling, low load and highload conditions of an engine are provided. A feedback air fuel ratio is calculated on the basis of feedback signals from an air fuel ratio sensor. A value in the memory corresponding to the detected running condition of the engine is compensated on the basis of deviation of the feedback air fuel ratio from the base air fuel ratio. When the values in at least two memory locations deviate by at least a predetermined value from the base value, the altimetric compensation value is adjusted and the speed change pattern is altered on the basis of the altimetric compensation value thus obtained.

  • Patent number: 4471736
Abstract: An ignition timing control system for an internal combustion engine having a plurality of cylinders in which at each of different load conditions determined by the operating conditions of the engine the ignition timing for each cylinder is periodically retarded to cause a nonknocking ignition and the resulting background vibration levels detected by a knock sensor are stored in a memory. During the normal operation, the vibration level detected by the knock sensor with respect to each cylinder is compared with the corresponding background vibration level stored under the same load condition to detect the presence of knocking and thereby to determine the proper ignition timing.
