  • Patent number: 11635046
Abstract: Various methods and systems are provided for controlling emissions and a likelihood of engine knock during combustion in a multi-fuel engine. A method for an engine includes mixing an amount of a first fuel and an amount of a second fuel to combust a fuel mixture having a fuel ratio of the first fuel relative to the second fuel, the first fuel having a faster combustion flame speed relative to the second fuel, the fuel mixture having an air-to-fuel ratio with an amount of air delivered to the engine. The method further includes controlling either or both of a speed of combustion and a stability of combustion of the fuel mixture with the amount of air delivered to the engine by changing at least one of the fuel ratio, the air-to-fuel ratio, or both of the fuel ratio and the air-to-fuel ratio.

  • Patent number: 11635037
Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for diagnosing cylinders in an engine. In one example, the method may include selecting a cylinder of the engine for perturbation, and while maintaining a horsepower output of the engine, perturbing the cylinder. Responsive to the perturbation of the cylinder inducing a crankcase pressure difference greater than or equal to a threshold difference, a degradation condition of the cylinder may be indicated. In one example, the perturbation may include cutting fuel to the cylinder. In one example, an engine load may be redistributed among each of remaining cylinder of a plurality of cylinders of the engine to maintain the horsepower output of the engine.

  • Patent number: 11637421
Abstract: A system and method that identify a location and/or magnitude of a ground fault in a circuit having a bus that connects battery strings with loads and a ground reference between the loads are provided. Potential of the bus is shifted relative to a ground reference in a first direction. A first impedance in the bus between the battery strings and the ground reference is determined, and the bus is shifted relative to the ground reference in a second direction. A second impedance in the bus between the battery strings and the ground reference is determined. A location and/or severity of a ground fault is determined based on a relationship between the first impedance and the second impedance.

  • Patent number: 11630030
Abstract: A sensor system includes one or more sensors that sense vibrations of a vehicle and one or more processors that can determine a speed of the vehicle and determine whether the vibrations occurring at one or more frequencies of interest (that are based on the speed of the vehicle) indicate damage to a propulsion system of the vehicle. The one or more processors optionally may determine a hunting frequency of a wheel and axle set and/or a lateral acceleration of the wheel and axle set from the vibrations. The one or more processors can determine a conicity of a wheel in the wheel and axle set based on the hunting frequency and/or the lateral acceleration that is determined.

  • Patent number: 11630464
Abstract: A vehicle control system includes a controller that detects a communication loss between a first vehicle and a second vehicle and/or a monitoring device in a vehicle system. The controller operationally restricts movement of the vehicle system based on the communication loss. The controller obtains or generates a transitional plan that designates operational settings for the first vehicle and/or the second vehicle based at least in part on a location of the first vehicle and/or the second vehicle. The controller selectively changes movement of the first vehicle and/or the second vehicle via the transitional plan to reduce a speed of the first vehicle and/or the second vehicle responsive to the communication loss being detected.

  • Patent number: 11629679
Abstract: A configuration is provided for a fuel injector for a common rail fuel system. In one example, the fuel injector may include a housing, an inner chamber enclosed by the housing, and a flow limiting valve. The flow limiting valve may be arranged at a downstream end of the inner chamber and also enclosed by the housing. This configuration may allow the fuel injector housing to have sufficient wall strength to withstand high pressure fuel injection and may allow effective fuel supply cut off when fuel cut off is demanded.

  • Patent number: 11585264
Abstract: Methods and systems are proposed for controlling a temperature of exhaust gases generated by the engine by operating an E-Turbo of the vehicle. In one embodiment, a method is provided, comprising increasing a power generated by an electric machine mechanically coupled with an exhaust turbine of an E-Turbo of a vehicle or adjusting an engine power based on a speed of the exhaust turbine and an air-fuel ratio (AFR) of an engine of the vehicle of the engine responsive to the speed of the exhaust turbine increasing above a threshold turbine speed. By increasing or decreasing the power generated by the electric machine and/or adjusting the engine power, the temperature of the exhaust gas may be maintained within a threshold temperature range where an efficiency of an aftertreatment system may be maximized, thereby reducing an emissions of the vehicle.
