  • Patent number: 11527151
Abstract: A system and a method for monitoring route devices in a transportation network includes one or more processors to receive sensed traffic control device information from first vehicle systems in a transportation network formed from interconnected routes. The sensed traffic control device information indicates states of traffic control devised at intersections between the routes in the transportation network. The one or more processors determine whether the sensed traffic control device information conflicts with stored traffic control device information stored in a database accessible by the one or more processors. The one or more processors send one or more bulletins to one or more second vehicle systems to change movement of the one or more second vehicle systems responsive to determining that the sensed traffic control device information conflicts with the stored traffic control device information.

  • Patent number: 11518422
Abstract: A control system and method determine an energy demand associated with delivery of cargo in a trip. The energy demand represents how much electric energy is needed to move cargo vehicles that carry the cargo through the trip. Locations of energy tenders and states of charge of the energy tenders are determined. A schedule for the cargo vehicles to deliver the cargo to a delivery location within a delivery time slot is determined. This schedule is determined based on the energy demand, the locations of the energy tenders, and the states of charge of the energy tenders. The system and method direct which of the energy tenders that the cargo vehicles are to couple with, be powered by, and move with for powering the cargo along routes to the delivery location of the trip within the designated time slot.

  • Patent number: 11502469
Abstract: A shunt extends from a brush received by a brush box of a brush holder. The first end of the shunt can be connected to the brush, and the second end of the shunt can connect to the brush holder. A lever connects to a back plate of the brush holder, and the lever may reversibly and selectively rotate between a first position and a second position; the lever can have a distal portion, and the second position of the lever secures a portion of the shunt between the distal portion of the lever and another component of the brush holder. The secured portion of the shunt can restrict downward movement of the brush in the brush box, while a spring pushes downward on the brush in the brush in the brush box, to thereby fixedly position the brush in the brush box.

  • Patent number: 11491880
Abstract: A vehicle control system determines an upper non-zero limit on deceleration of a vehicle to prevent rollback of the vehicle down a grade being traveled up on by the vehicle. The upper non-zero limit on deceleration is determined by the controller based on a payload carried by the vehicle, a speed of the vehicle, and a grade of a route being traveled upon by the vehicle. The controller is configured to monitor the deceleration of the vehicle, and to automatically prevent the deceleration of the vehicle from exceeding the upper non-zero limit by controlling one or more of a brake or a motor of the vehicle. The controller also is configured to one or more of actuate the brake or supply current to the motor of the vehicle to prevent rollback of the vehicle while the vehicle is moving up the grade at a non-zero speed.

  • Patent number: 11485394
Abstract: A locomotive control system includes a locomotive having a traction motor and sensors. The traction motor provides tractive effort for propelling the locomotive and the sensors measure performance conditions of the locomotive. The system also includes a controller having one or more processors communicatively coupled with the traction motor. The controller selects one or more baseline conditions that designate operational conditions under which the locomotive is to operate, and monitors the performance conditions that are generated by the locomotive during operation of the locomotive according to the operational conditions designated by the one or more baseline conditions. The controller identifies a flashover condition or a plugging condition of the locomotive by comparing the performance conditions that are generated by the locomotive during operation of the locomotive with the one or more baseline conditions.

  • Patent number: 11485393
Abstract: A system and method for controlling a vehicle system determine one or more of a route parameter of a route on which the vehicle system is moving or a vehicle parameter of the vehicle system. The system and method also determine whether a ratio of a lateral force exerted by one or more wheels of the vehicle system on the route to a vertical force exerted by the one or more wheels of the vehicle system on the route increases to a value exceeding a designated threshold as a result of the one or more route parameter of vehicle parameter that is determined. The ratio of the lateral force to the vertical force exerted by the one or more wheels of the vehicle system on the route is reduced to a value less than the designated threshold by changing an operation of the vehicle system.
