  • Patent number: 11725619
Abstract: An alignment system includes an optical sensor device that may be inserted into a passage of a body that is located between a fuel injector and a combustion chamber of an engine cylinder. The body is shaped to transmit fuel ejected from a spray hole in a fuel injector into the combustion chamber of the engine cylinder. The system also includes a controller that may examine output of the optical sensor device and determine whether the passage of the body is aligned with the spray hole of the fuel injector based on the output from the optical sensor device. The controller may change a position of one or more of the body or the fuel injector responsive to determining that the passage of the body is not aligned with the spray hole of the fuel injector.

  • Patent number: 11725881
Abstract: A core body includes a structure having a plurality of connected unit cells. At least one unit cell has one or more sidewalls that are curved and define a portion of an inner passageway within and through the unit cell. The one or more sidewalls define multiple orifices and include a cone disposed between at least some of the orifices. A dimple is defined along an outer surface of the unit cell at the cone. The outer surface at least partially defines an outer passageway that is sealed from the inner passageway by the one or more sidewalls. The one or more sidewalls are configured to transport one or more of thermal energy from a first fluid or a component of the first fluid flowing in the inner passageway to a second fluid flowing in the outer passageway without the first fluid mixing with the second fluid.

  • Patent number: 11719154
Abstract: Various methods and systems are provided for engine startup. In one example, a method for an engine includes injecting a fuel mixture with a proportion of a first fuel to a second fuel to decrease carbon emissions, in response to detection of or request for the engine to start. The proportion of the first fuel to the second fuel in the injected fuel mixture is decreased in response to engine speed reaching an idling speed. The first fuel may be a non-hydrocarbon-based fuel and the second fuel may be a hydrocarbon-based fuel.

  • Patent number: 11719602
Abstract: A method that may include obtaining environmental parameters related to one or more routes of a trip for a first vehicle system, and determining one or more expenditure sections and one or more charging sections of the one or more routes by predicting where the first vehicle system will consume energy and where the first vehicle system will generate the energy, respectively, during the trip based on the environmental parameters. A first trip plan may be obtained for the trip based on the one or more expenditure sections and the one or more charging sections, the trip plan designating one or more operational settings for the first vehicle system for travel during the trip.

  • Patent number: 11716388
Abstract: A vehicle control system includes a controller configured to control communication between or among plural vehicle devices that control movement of a single vehicle system or a multi-vehicle system via a network that communicatively couples the vehicle devices. The controller also is configured to control the communication using a data distribution service (DDS) and with the network operating as a time sensitive network (TSN). The controller is configured to direct a first set of the vehicle devices to communicate using time sensitive communications, a different, second set of the vehicle devices to communicate using best effort communications, and a different, third set of the vehicle devices to communicate using rate constrained communications.

  • Patent number: 11713063
Abstract: A method for reducing slack in a linkage chain of a vehicle truck assembly is provided. In one example, the method includes responding to a request to de-lift a lift mechanism by reducing pressure in an actuator coupled to the lift mechanism, where the lift mechanism is configured to transfer a load from a first axle to a second axle of the vehicle during the de-lift, and during the de-lift, maintaining the pressure in the actuator at or above a threshold pressure to maintain tension in a weight transfer device of the lift mechanism.

  • Patent number: 11709021
Abstract: A thermal management system and method includes a body having an inlet and an outlet configured to direct a first fluid into and out of the body. The body incudes a channel that is fluidly separate from the inlet and the outlet. A second fluid is directed through the channel. A conduit assembly is fluidly coupled with the inlet and the outlet. The conduit assembly includes plural fluidly separate conduits. Each of the plural conduits extend between a corresponding first end and a corresponding second end along a corresponding tortuous path. The plural conduits are intertwined with each other between the first ends and the second ends. The plural conduits are positioned such that the second fluid flowing through the channel passes over the plural conduits and exchanges thermal energy with the first fluid that moves within each of the plural conduits.

  • Patent number: 11711707
Abstract: Systems and methods for correlating wireless communication performance with vehicle system configurations determine wireless message characteristics of wireless messages communicated with vehicles in vehicle systems and locations along a route where the wireless message characteristics were determined. The wireless message characteristics and the locations can be determined during movement of the vehicle systems along a route. Relative positions of the vehicles in the vehicle systems is obtained, and a signal propagation profile is determined based on the wireless message characteristics, the locations where the wireless message characteristics were determined, and the relative positions of the vehicles. The signal propagation profile can represent relationships between the wireless message characteristics, the relative positions of the vehicles, and the locations along the route.

  • Patent number: 11691656
Abstract: A system includes a locator device and one or more processors operably connected to the locator device. The locator device determines a trailing distance between a trailing vehicle system that travels along a route and a leading vehicle system that travels along the route ahead of the trailing vehicle system in a same direction of travel. The one or more processors compare the trailing distance to a first proximity distance relative to the leading vehicle system. In response to the trailing distance being less than the first proximity distance, the one or more processors set a permitted power output limit for the trailing vehicle system to be less than a maximum achievable power output for the trailing vehicle system, the permitted power output limit being set based on a power-to-weight ratio of the leading vehicle system.
