Abstract: A switchable light transmission module is disclosed that includes a substrate having a first surface defining at least part of an enclosed volume, a porous layer disposed on the first surface and in fluid communication with the enclosed volume, and a reservoir in fluid communication with the enclosed volume. The reservoir is configured to supply a fluid to the sealed volume such that the fluid contacts the porous layer. The fluid has a refractive index that is close to the refractive index of the porous layer, has a high wettability for the porous layer, and does not dissolve the porous layer. When in a dry state, voids in the porous layer are filled with air which has a much different refractive index than the porous layer itself, resulting in a surface that is reflective and not very transmissive.

Abstract: A system for near-surface geophysical subsurface imaging for detecting and characterizing subsurface heterogeneities comprises an instrument that outputs probing electromagnetic signals through a ground surface that interact and are affected by scattered signals of acoustic waves that travel through the ground surface and further senses vibrational modes of a subsurface below the ground surface; an imaging device that dynamically generates a time sequence of images of properties of the acoustic waves and maps elastic wave fields of the acoustic waves; and a processor that analyzes dynamic multi-wave data of the images to quantify spatial variations in the mechanical and viscoelastic properties of the subsurface.

Abstract: A computer-implemented method, system and computer program product for generating fake documents. A corpus of domain specific documents is built and word embeddings for each word in such documents are identified as embed-ding vectors. Concepts in the corpus are then clustered together by clustering the embedding vectors. A feasible candidate replacement set is generated for each concept using the clustered concepts in the corpus. After such pre-processing steps are accomplished, concepts are extracted from a document. The concept importance values are computed for these extracted concepts, in which the extracted concepts are clustered into bins based on such measurements. A joint optimization problem is solved to identify both the concepts in the document to be replaced using the clustered concepts in the bins as well as the corresponding replacement concepts obtained from the clustered concepts in the corpus. Such replacements are made to generate a fake document.
Abstract: Blockchain-based, smart contract platforms have great promise to remove trust and add transparency to distributed applications. However, this benefit often comes at the cost of greatly reduced privacy. Techniques for implementing a privacy-preserving smart contract is described. The system can keep accounts private while not losing functionality and with only a limited performance overhead. This is achieved by building a confidential and anonymous token on top of a cryptocurrency. Multiple complex applications can also be built using the smart contract system.

Abstract: An imaging substrate is provided to facilitate wide field photothermal infrared spectroscopic imaging of samples disposed thereon. The substrate includes at least two reflective layers and at least one spacer layer disposed therebetween which, together, form an optical cavity. The spacer layer(s) exhibit expansion and/or refractive index change as a function of heating by incident infrared illumination. Such localized heating results in a localized change in the effective reflectivity of the substrate by locally tuning/detuning the optical cavity. Thus, the pattern of effective reflectivity of the substrate can be made to correspond to the pattern of infrared absorptivity of a sample mounted on the substrate by illuminating the sample and the substrate with infrared illumination.

Abstract: A system and method of effectively measuring a change in a gradient of a magnetic field. The systems include a first magnet and a second magnet mechanically coupled together and aligned along a polarization axis. The first magnet and the second magnet are positioned such that a pair of like magnetic poles of the first magnet and the second magnet face in opposite directions. Further, the first magnet and the second magnet are configured to move along the polarization axis in response to a magnetic field. A sensing system is configured to measure a change in a gradient of the magnetic field based on the movement of the first magnet and second magnet along the polarization axis in response to the magnetic field.

Abstract: A method for diagnostic imaging with reduced contrast agent dose uses a deep learning network (DLN) [114] that has been trained using zero-contrast [100] and low-contrast [102] images as input to the DLN and full-contrast images [104] as reference ground truth images. Prior to training, the images are pre-processed [106, 110, 118] to co-register and normalize them. The trained DLN [114] is then used to predict a synthesized full-dose contrast agent image [116] from acquired zero-dose and low-dose images.

Abstract: The present invention provides compositions and methods for inhibiting one or more diacylglycerol kinase (DGK) isoform in a cell in order to enhance the cytolytic activity of the cell. In one embodiment, the cells may be used in adoptive T cell transfer. For example, in some embodiments, the cell is modified to express a chimeric antigen receptor (CAR). Inhibition of DGK in T cells used in adoptive T cell transfer increases cytolytic activity of the T cells and thus may be used in the treatment of a variety of conditions, including cancer, infection, and immune disorders.

Abstract: A piezoelectric polymer used as a piezocatalyst, and methods of manufacture and use therefor. A preferred piezoelectric polymer is poly(vinylidene difluoride) (PVDF) due to its piezoelectric response and good flexibility. The polymer can be doped with a metal, metal salt, metal carbonyl, metal oxide such as ZnO, Co2O3, or TiO2, or ion such as Cr3+, Co2+, or Zn2+. The dopant can be chosen so that when the polymer is PVDF the dopant increases the amount of ?-phase PVDF and/or ?-phase PVDF relative to ?-phase PVDF, thereby increasing the piezocatalytic response of the polymer. The compound to be decomposed can be adsorbed on the surface of the piezoelectric polymer. Applications include wastewater treatment, CO2 capture and reduction, hydroformylation, water splitting, and ammonia synthesis.
