  • Patent number: 5560082
Abstract: A window operator handle foldable between an operable position for manual pivoting and a storage position, including a body with a manually graspable portion at one end and a recess in the other end, and a base including a longitudinal cylindrical portion having a central bore extending completely through the base. The handle body recess is defined by side walls spaced a selected width, a top wall, and a wall at one end oriented substantially parallel to the operator drive shaft when the handle is in the operable position, with the base cylindrical portion having an outer diameter slightly less than the selected width. An operator drive shaft is securable in the base bore so that the an outer end of the drive shaft is substantially adjacent the handle body when the handle is in a storage position. The handle base is secured for pivoting relative to the handle body about an axis substantially orthogonal to longitudinal whereby in the storage position the base is substantially within the handle body recess.

  • Patent number: 5531045
Abstract: A window operator and lock structure for controlling a window sash relative to a window frame, including a drive input securable to a frame and engaging both an operator linkage securable to a window sash to effectuate motion of a secured sash relative to a frame, and a lock linkage securable to a lock structure for locking a secured sash to a frame. A link in the lock linkage moves in a generally longitudinal direction when operating the lock structure and includes a substantially transverse slot. A cam is pivotable about a cam axis fixed relative to the frame and includes a member receivable in the link slot to block operation of the lock linkage. The sash when closed against the frame includes a member engaging the cam to pivot the cam in a first direction moving the cam member clear of the link slot. • Patent number: 5448857
Abstract: An apparatus for selectively securing a window sash to a window frame, including a longitudinally extending jamb liner secured to the frame adjacent one side of the sash, and a movable cam between the frame and the liner for selectively adjusting the spacing therebetween. Frictional locking surfaces are provided between the liner and the sash whereby the cam in a locking configuration biases the liner away from the frame and thereby against the sash to frictionally lock the sash against movement relative to the liner. The liner defines a portion of the track guiding the sash for substantially planar movement and the cam may also be selectively moved to a releasing configuration allowing the liner to sufficiently approach the frame to allow the sash to be cleared from the liner.

  • Patent number: 5440837
Abstract: An apparatus for both manual and powered operation of the sash of a double hung window, including a drive belt adjacent one side of the sash, a power drive for the belt, and a pulley carried with the sash and engaging the belt. Two ratchets having wheels with oppositely facing inclined teeth and pawls biased into engagement with the wheel of the respective ratchet through a connecting shaft secure the pulley against pivoting in either direction to effectively lock the pulley relative to the engaged belt. A ratchet housing is disposed in a sash recess and has a D-shaped opening on one end adjacent a cylindrical opening to the pulley. A bushing for the ratchet shaft is received in the sash cylindrical opening and includes a D-shaped flange receivable through an annular opening in the housing whereby twisting of the bushing misaligns the flange with a suitable tab to secure the bushing in the sash cylindrical opening.
