  • Patent number: 6634683
Abstract: The invention pertains to a window sash lock comprising a handle, a latch, a base and a base cover that fits over at least a substantial portion of the base and completely covers the base fasteners, while not interfering with the handle and latch. The base cover is typically a molded plastic design but may be formed as a metal stamping or fabricated from any suitable material. The base cover may be attached to the base by snap means or by an interference fit for easy removal and reinstallation so that the base cover can be replaced when decorating to provide a color, style or textural change.

  • Patent number: 6588061
Abstract: A pop-in extended travel single roller for patio doors is retained in the patio door track by no mechanical device. This is accomplished by mounting the roller assembly into a pre-fabricated opening, the width of which is slightly larger than the over-all basic width of the outer housing. Protrusions on the side of the outer housing, after passing through the opening, retain the roller in the proper position. This feature eliminates the need for mechanical fasteners thereby saving costs of parts and labor. This assembly also provides for increased over-all height adjustment range aids the ease of removal of the movable panel of the patio door assembly through the use of an adjusting screw.

  • Patent number: 6322113
Abstract: A latch apparatus for a door having a first face and a second face includes a housing adapted for mounting on the first face of the door. The bolt member pivotally mounts to the housing and extends and retracts in and out from the housing and is urged toward an extended position by a return spring. A first push type handle mounts to the housing and retracts the bolt when pushed toward the door. A spindle extends through the door from a second latch pivotally mounted to the second face of the door. The spring back engages the spindle and provides for retracting the bolt upon rotation of the spindle.

  • Patent number: 6317922
Abstract: A door closer includes a cylinder and a piston sliding along the cylinder with a piston rod extending from the cylinder, with the closer mounting at one end to the door and at a second end to the door frame. The door closer has a speed adjustment know extending from a first end for varying the closure rate. Adjustable mounting brackets provide for flexibility in mounting configurations and closing force. A door lock maintains the piston in an extended position and keeps the door open. The lock includes a washer sliding on the piston rod in a first position and locking the rod at a second position. The washer has a tab that engages an angled surface in the first position to prevent locking engagement with the piston rod. A rotatable end cap rotates the washer between the locked position and the unlocked position.

  • Patent number: 6036243
Abstract: A low profile door handle having interior and exterior parts is disclosed. The interior part of the door handle comprises a body and a handle portion having upper and lower ends attached to the body. The handle portion has a top having a high area at its center and low areas at its upper and lower ends. The distance between the top of the handle portion and the body gradually and continuously decreases from the center to the upper and lower ends so that the top curves downward smoothly from the high area to the low areas. The contour of the body is similarly curved so that the door handle may be used in conjunction with horizontal blinds without interfering with operation of the blinds or creating a large bulge.

  • Patent number: 5992907
Abstract: A position control mechanism for a double/single-hung window, including retractable plungers mountable on opposite sides of a window sash and received in a track on the frame to support the window sash for movement. An elongated member is secured at opposite ends to the plungers. A tilt latch actuator is mountable to the window sash between the plungers for pivoting about an axis, and includes a shaft with an opening therein oriented substantially radially relative to the axis and receiving the elongated member when secured to the first window sash. The ends of the shaft opening are substantially equal radial distances from the axis, and the elongated member is substantially linearly oriented when secured to the plungers with the plungers received in the one track. Guide openings defined by a bushing concentric with the axis are spaced from the shaft at substantially equal distances on opposite radial sides of the axis.

  • Patent number: 5839767
Abstract: An actuator for a window lock including a housing mountable to a window frame and defining an opening between opposite sides, one of the sides having a recessed portion therein. A handle is pivotable about an axis within the housing opening and has a central opening with sloped cam surfaces therearound. A cam bushing is receivable in the handle central opening and has sloped cam surfaces engageable with the handle cam surfaces whereby pivoting of the handle relative to the cam bushing axially biases the cam bushing relative to the handle toward a locking position. The cam bushing further includes a stop tab extending from one side of the cam bushing and receivable in the housing recessed stop when the actuator is in a locking position. The cam bushing one side is axially biased toward the housing one side. A lock link is operatively connectable to a window lock for operating a lock in response to pivoting of the lock link, and is pivotally connected to the cam bushing.
