Abstract: Apparatus and method for marking a rotating tire, for example, to indicate the point of maximum radial force variation. The apparatus includes a marker head which is pivotable into contact with an inking pad in a direction similar to the direction of rotation of the tire at the point of contact of the marker head with the tire and which is also retractable from the tire.
Abstract: Selective herbicidal 2-(alpha-chloromethylsulfonyl) pyridine-1-oxides, e.g., 2-(alpha-phenyl-alpha-chloromethylsulfonyl) pyridine-1-oxide controls weed grasses without injury to such crops as cucumber.

Abstract: The ends of two sections of lined pipe (e.g. polyurethane lined steel pipe), in which the lining terminates a definite distance from each pipe end, and butted together, with an internal concentric sleeve spanning the unlined pipe ends and defining an annular hollow casting space at the area to be joined. The butted ends are then welded together at the joint. Thereafter a curable liquid polymer (e.g., liquid polyurethane composition) is introduced into the casting space through an opening in the unlined section of pipe, and cured to a solid state in situ. The opening is then plugged.
Abstract: A thermoplastic elastomeric, uncured or partially cured, composition of EPDM, polypropylene, extender oil and inorganic filler useful for making electrical cords and fittings.
Abstract: A catalyst composition is provided with an activator in combination with a primary catalyst system. The primary catalyst system is a vanadium compound and an organometallic compound of the formula RMgX, LiAlr.sub.4, or R.sub.A Al.sub.2 X.sub.B, wherein R is a hydrocarbon radical having 1 to 12 carbon atoms, X is a halogen atom; A is a number from 2 to 6, and B is a number from 0 to 4, with the proviso that the sum of A and B is 6 and that at least one of the groups attached either to the vanadium compound or to the organometallic compound is a halogen atom.

Abstract: Diphosphites having the structural formula: ##STR1## wherein: R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 may be the same or different and are C.sub.4 to C.sub.12 tertiary alkyl or C.sub.9 to C.sub.14 tertiary aralkyl;R.sup.3 is hydrogen, C.sub.1 to C.sub.18 alkyl or C.sub.7 to C.sub.18 aralkyl. These hydrolytically stable solid diphosphites are useful as antioxidants in organic polymers such as polypropylene.
Abstract: A pulley configuration which increases the contact area between the pulley tooth tips and the land area of the belt teeth. The increased contact area reduces land area wear between belt teeth. The pulley tooth tip has a longitudinal cross-sectional contour partially composed of two substantially circular arcs connected by a line segment which is substantially straight or slightly curved. The length of the line segment is from 2 percent to 100 percent of the width of the belt tooth on which the pulley is used, and preferably less than about 7 percent of the width of the belt tooth. The pulley groove depth may be less than the height of the belt tooth and the groove has a longitudinal cross-sectional contour partially composed of two substantially circular arcs connected by a line segment which is substantially straight or slightly curved. The pulley in combination with a toothed belt forms a positive power transmission system.
Abstract: A microbicide having the general formula ##STR1## wherein R is a halomethyl radical, or a methylene radical; W is cyclohexyl, phenyl or meta or para substituted phenyl wherein the substituents are C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl, halogen or nitro; X and Y is hydrogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl, halogen or nitro; provided that when R is halomethyl n is 1 and when R is methylene n is 0.
Abstract: A toroidal insert for an inflated, tubeless, pneumatic tire. The insert comprises a preformed torus-like core, tire cord radially wound around the torus-like core, and at least one load bearing member having tire cord therein, said member being circumferentially wound around substantially the middle one third of the radially outer surface of the radially wound tire cord. The insert, when situated within the inflated tire, includes a cross-section having a thick, substantially oval, central portion extending between the beads of the inflated tire and a pair of thin end portions each extending from its respective side of the thick, oval, central portion along the adjacent sidewall of said inflated tire to about the midpoint of said adjacent sidewall, whereby, when the tire is deflated, the thick, oval, central portion of the insert supports the tread portion of the deflated tire and each of the thin end portions of the insert lies between and supports the adjacent, collapsed sidewall of the deflated tire.
Abstract: Lubricating oils are stabilized against oxidative degradation by the use of a stabilizer comprising (A) an amine wherein the amine is a substituted benzylamine, or a substituted 1-amino-1,2,3,4-tetrahydronaphthalene, (B) a metal deacturator and (C) a metal or metal salt. Optionally a metal deactivator can be incorporated into the system. The preferred substitute benzylamine is N(alpha-methyl benzyl)amine the preferred naphthalamine is phenyl-alpha-naphthalamine.

Abstract: A vehicle tire with tractive elements for positive engagement with the ground surface is disclosed. The tire carcass has a tread including raised features. Means for positively linking tractive elements positioned radially outwardly of the tread to the raised features of the tread are provided in the form of a flexible but substantially inextensible belt positioned radially outwardly of the tread, and retainer elements positioned radially inwardly of the belt, the tractive elements being positioned radially outwardly of the belt and being releasably attached to the retainer elements for clamping the belt tightly therebetween. Inflation pressure within the carcass expands its crown region to maintain the belt in a taut condition. The retainer elements are sectionally constructed to facilitate assembly and disassembly of the tire.
