    Abstract: The invention relates to MHC-Ia open conformers as immunomodulatory agents, particularly in the treatment or prevention of cancer. The open conformer comprises or consists of a first and a second monomer, and each monomer comprises a HLA-heavy chain from the MHC-Ia molecules. The open conformer further comprises a protein stabilizing polypeptide sequence and optionally an amino acid linker. Further aspects of the invention provide combination medicaments comprising the MHC-Ia open conformers and immune checkpoint inhibitors. Furthermore, the invention relates to the use of MHC-Ia open conformers as immunomodulators, particularly in diseases where the interaction to diverse immunoregulatory receptors such as KIR3DL1, KIR3DL2, KIR3DL3, LILRB1, LILRB2, and PTPRJ modulates an immune response, and in diseases were the negative modulation of Tregs is a therapeutic strategy, e.g. infectious diseases.

    Abstract: Use of simple acyclic polyamines for the treatment of parasites of the family Trypanosomatidae The present invention provides the use of certain single acyclic polyamines of Formula (I), attached to heterocycles, for the treatment of leishmaniasis and trypanosomiasis. All the compounds studied show antiparasitic activity against Leishmania species, comparable or superior to that of the active ingredient of the drug commonly used to treat this disease, but with a macrophage toxicity similar to or, in most cases, lower than that of the commercial reference compound, and with higher selectivity indices against strains representative of the three clinical forms of the disease: cutaneous, mucocutaneous and visceral. The compounds show ability to inhibit parasite superoxide dismutase, generally at concentrations lower than those required to inhibit human superoxide dismutase. All this supports its usefulness for treating leishmaniasis and also trypanosomiasis.

    Abstract: Communication systems and methods in accordance with various embodiments of the invention utilize modulation on zeros. Carrier frequency offsets (CFO) can result in an unknown rotation of all zeros of a received signal's z-transform. Therefore, a binary MOCZ scheme (BMOCZ) can be utilized in which the modulated binary data is encoded using a cycling register code (e.g. CPC or ACPC), enabling receivers to determine cyclic shifts in the BMOCZ symbol resulting from a CFO. Receivers in accordance with several embodiments of the invention include decoders capable of decoding information bits from received discrete-time baseband signals by: estimating a timing offset for the received signal; determining a plurality of zeros of a z-transform of the received symbol; identifying zeros from the plurality of zeros that encode received bits by correcting fractional rotations resulting from the CFO; and decoding information bits based upon the received bits using a cycling register code.
