    Abstract: A method and an apparatus for obtaining information on a cardiovascular system beat by beat and continuously which are based exclusively on measurements between two limbs and effected with a pair of distal electrodes on each limb. The measurement is made by causing an alternating current to flow between one electrode of each limb and measuring the potential difference between the other two electrodes, one also on each limb. This potential difference has a low frequency component which is an electrocardiogram (ECG) and another component having a frequency of the injected alternating current and from which an impedance plethysmogram (IPG) is extracted. The cardiovascular information is determined by measuring the time interval between any predefined characteristic element of the ECG and one of the IPG.

    Abstract: A method and system to implement the method of measuring a change in an optical path length using differential laser self-mixing interferometry. The method includes obtaining a reference SMI signal (Sr) and a main measurement SMI signal (Sm) of a laser (LD) and determining the relative change in the optical path length between the (LD) and a target (T) in a range between 0 and ?/2, by comparing the relative positions along time of fringes or transitions of the (Sm) and (Sr). The (Sr) and the (Sm) are obtained at different moments once backscattered laser light (br) is generated from the reflection on said target (T) of a reference and a main measurement laser light beam emitted by the laser (LD) and while being modulated according to a specific modulation pattern that maintained while both the (Sr) and the (Sm) are acquired and has re-entered its laser cavity.

    Abstract: A method that includes interference control at transmitters and interference mitigation at receivers in a wireless communication system is disclosed. Embodiments of the present invention exploit the interference sensitivity at neighboring terminals by taking into account the reciprocity of propagation radio channels in Time Division Duplexing systems (TDD). It can be applied to design the resource allocation for downlink (DL) and uplink (UL) transmissions in a wireless communication system. The methods include the self-configuration of the transmit power, the transmit precoder and the receive filter, at each transmitter and receiver in a multi-cell network. Systems are also provided and configured for implementing the methods of the invention.

    Abstract: A microfluidic device for separating liquid from the same liquid containing deformable particles without external sources of energy. The device includes: at least one transport channel (1) using various fluid-hydrodynamic principles in order to increase the amount of separated/obtained fluid; and at least one separating area (2) which diverts part of the fluid circulating through the transport channel towards at least one collection channel (3) or reaction chamber. The separating area (2) can include at least one array of pillars, the configuration of which maximizes the amount of fluid extracted at once. The depth and width of the collection channel (3) are adaptable according to the requirements of the test to be implemented. A filter is provided for separating plasma from a drop of blood in a highly efficient manner, which can be used in point-of-care testing systems.

    Abstract: Devices and methods for stimulating mechanically or electromechanically stem cell monolayer and 3D cultures for tissue engineering applications are disclosed. A bracket is proposed to be used in a disposable stimulation device. A disposable stimulation device is also proposed for accommodating a cell culture in a flexible area. Finally, an apparatus is proposed to mechanically extend the disposable stimulation device to induce mechanical stimulation. Additionally, a pair of electrodes placed at two opposing sides of the flexible area creates an electric field to induce electrical stimulation. Accordingly, a method to stimulate electromechanically a cell culture is proposed.
