  • Publication number: 20110200333
Abstract: A method for enabling bidirectional data communication using a single optical carrier and a single laser source with the aid of an integrated, colorless demodulator and detector for frequency modulated signals, and a reflective modulator. A receiving optical system holds a technique for demodulation and detection of optical frequency modulated signals, enabling remodulation of the incoming signal to establish bidirectional communication with the transmitting optical system, without introducing a high penalty. A colorless demodulator and detector, which provides the functionality of a periodic filtering device for demodulation of the downstream, and also detection capability. The principle of operation of the CDD relies on the introduction of a comb transfer function with the help of a Semiconductor Optical Amplifier, by providing a reflected feedback signal to the CDD's active element.

  • Publication number: 20110191359
Abstract: The present invention establishes a process for creating a set of structures that allows efficient storage and subsequent handling. The multigraph is represented using bitmaps with element counters and mappings between values and organized bitmaps to faciliate the handling of the multigraphs. The bits in the bitmaps represent two aspects of the multigraph: 1) indexing of all the objects of the multigraph as a function of their identifiers and 2) connectivity between objects of the multigraph, whether they are vertices or edges. Mappings allow, given a value, accessing the objects of the multigraph which contain such value. Multigraph operations are solved by accessing the mappings and applying logical operations on the bitmaps. This way of representing a graph allows efficiently performing graph operations such as: inserting a vertex or an edge, inserting an attribute, acquiring the incoming and outgoing edges of an attribute, etc.

  • Publication number: 20110109877
Abstract: The invention relates to a method and system for the objective measurement of ocular accommodation. A double-pass ophthalmoscopic system is used which incorporates a periscope allowing the patient to binocularly see real objects in an open field and images of the retinal plane to be recorded on a CCD camera. The method includes obtaining, for different values of accommodation stimulation, a set of retinal images corresponding to different focal values in the retina, obtaining the different focal positions in the retina by moving the two lenses incorporated in the ophthalmoscopic system. The image with the best optical quality is obtained for each set of images and by associating the selected image with the known value of the accommodation stimulation it is possible to objectively measure the accommodation.

  • Publication number: 20110100797
Abstract: This invention describe a process for obtaining thin films of intermediate band semiconductor materials consisting of obtaining a target of compressed particles of the said material for its use in sputtering equipment. The target is obtained by means of the thermal process of a mixture of semiconductor material components, following a specific profile of temperatures and times, in order to obtain a material in a polycrystalline form of the same composition as the intermediate band semiconductor material. The polycrystalline material is disintegrated again by means of mechanical processes in the form of a powder and is then compacted, through the application of a suitable pressure in order to form a target.

Abstract: A mobile system for electron beam intraoperative radiation therapy uses a race-track microtron placed in a housing playing the role of the vacuum chamber, which is supported by a positioner providing its motion with six degrees of freedom with respect to a patient. The positioner is a part of a mobile mechanical structure which houses an ion pump, a microwave source, waveguide elements, a modulator with a pulse transformer and a cooler. The intraoperative radiation therapy system has a tube-like unit which couples the vacuum chamber with the mobile supporting mechanical structure and provides three functions, namely pumping out of the air from the vacuum chamber, feeding of the race-track microtron accelerating structure with radiofrequency power and rotation of the vacuum chamber with respect to the horizontal axis of the unit.

  • Publication number: 20100195876
Abstract: The invention relates to a system and method for measuring light diffusion in the eyeball or eye region, by recording and processing retinal images. The inventive system includes a double-pass ophthalmoscopic system having means for correcting low-order aberrations. Said system can be used to record images of the plane of the retina on a CCD camera, the outer part of said images containing information relating to ocular scattering. The aforementioned images can be used to obtain the objective scattering index (OSI), providing the ratio between the energy on the outer part of the image and the energy in the central part, or, alternatively, the modulation transfer function (MTF) area can be used for this purpose once the low frequencies have been filtered. According to the inventive method, the low-order aberrations are corrected before a retinal image or a temporal sequence of retinal images is captured and recorded.

Abstract: The present development includes a first element of an optical fibre entrance by which an information carrying signal is transmitted, an optical detector block, a non-linear equalizer block and a final processor block. The development includes an electrical non-linear equalizer block, connecting the output of the optical detector block and the input of the final processor block that compensates the quadratic non-linear characteristic of the optical detector block. Both blocks thus may present a more linear joint characteristic between the electrical field envelope of the information carrying signal in the optical fibre and the electrical signal. Consequently, the final processor block can compensate, in a more effective form, for the linear distortions that the information carrying signal suffers in the transmission through the fibre.
