Patent number: 9482641Abstract: Provided is a device adapted for detecting chemical and physical phenomena and suitable for high integration, and a method for controlling the detection device. When a plurality of pH-detecting devices are used, a variation in sensitivity occurs in each of the sensing units. The variation in sensitivity can be calibrated using a simple method. The amount of charge (output signal) delivered by each of the sensing units to a standard solution is determined, and the difference between the delivered charge amount and a standard charge amount (standard output signal) delivered by a standard sensing unit is determined. The capacity of the potential well of the sensing unit is changed, or the potential of a TG unit when a charge is delivered is changed, so as to cancel out the difference.Type: GrantFiled: August 9, 2012Date of Patent: November 1, 2016Assignee: National University Corporation Toyohashi University of TechnologyInventors: Fumihiro Dasai, Kazuaki Sawada, Hirokazu Nakazawa

Patent number: 9480126Abstract: A ballast configured for multiple parallel lamp operation includes a system for detecting unbalanced loads or absent lamps in a parallel multiple lamp ballast. The ballast includes one or more starting transformers having windings, each winding connected in series with a lamp connected to the ballast. A winding of one or more of the starting transformers that is not connected in series with one of the lamps is monitored for a voltage in excess of a threshold. A voltage in excess of the threshold across the winding is indicative of an unbalanced load (e.g., an absent or broken lamp). If a voltage above the threshold is detected across the monitored load, the ballast ceases powering the lamps.Type: GrantFiled: July 21, 2014Date of Patent: October 25, 2016Assignee: Universal Lighting Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Wei Xiong, Danny Pugh

Patent number: 9447103Abstract: Inauhzin (INZ) was identified as a novel p53 activator, which selectively and efficiently suppressing tumor growth without displaying genotoxicity and with little toxicity to normal cells. A panel of INZ analogs were synthesized and evaluated their ability to induce cellular p53 and to inhibit cell growth in cell-based assays. As described, this leads to the discovery of INZ analog 37, a molecule that exhibits much better potency than INZ in both of p53 activation and cell growth inhibition in several human cancer cell lines including H460 and HCT116+/+ cells. This INZ analog exhibited a much lower effect on p53-null H1299 cells and importantly no toxicity towards normal human p53-containing WI-38 cells. Those results also reveal key chemical features for INZ activity, and identify the newly synthesized INZ analog 37 as a better small molecule for further development of anti-cancer therapies.Type: GrantFiled: July 27, 2013Date of Patent: September 20, 2016Assignee: Indiana University Research & Technology CorporationInventors: Hau Lu, Shelya Zeng, Qi Zhang, Qizhuang Ye, Derong Ding
