Abstract: A universal bacterial assay and kit for detecting and monitoring changes in concentration of a target analyte in solution. The assay relies on an engineered high affinity protein-based sensor with a detectable label that has high specificity to a target analyte, typically a ligand or metallated complex, and can be used to spectroscopically monitor interaction of the target analyte with a test bacterial strain. The sensors can be in the form of living, transport-deficient bacterial cells expressing the engineered high affinity protein, or in the form of purified proteins themselves. The system can further be used to screen candidate compounds for interference with the binding and uptake of such analytes by bacterial cells, which is useful in investigation of new classes of antibiotics.

Abstract: Aspects of the present disclosure include a robotic wheel that includes a tensegrity structure, an inner hub, an outer hub, and a cable. The tensegrity structure includes multiple rigid rods and multiple elastic cables, and the tensegrity structure defines a longitudinal axis, a first end and a second end. The inner hub is disposed at the first end of the tensegrity structure and the outer hub is disposed at the second end of the tensegrity structure. The cable is in contact with the outer hub, extends through the tensegrity structure parallel to the longitudinal axis, and extends through the inner hub. The cable is operable to retract to transition the tensegrity structure to a collapsed state and to extend to transition the tensegrity structure an expanded state.

Abstract: One or more techniques and/or systems are disclosed for a dry-type lubricant for use in a dry product hopper to help improve dry product flow and to improve anti-jamming properties of the dry product. The example lubricant can comprise a hydrophilic fiber, such as cellulose, having a width to length aspect ratio that provides a thin fiber. A plurality of hydrophobic particles are deposited on the surface of the fiber, resulting in a fiber surface exhibiting amphiphobic properties. Further, the fiber can operably absorb water, and then releases the absorbed water to the surface of the fiber under mechanical stress, such as when mixed with a product in a hopper. This can result in the water being disposed on the surface of the fiber, to provide lubrication to a product in a hopper to improve flow and anti-jamming characteristics of the product in the hopper.

Abstract: Various implementations include a method of decreasing oxygen saturation levels in a patient, including securing a leg and foot of the patient to a splint having a leg supporting portion, a foot supporting portion, and an inflatable device. The leg supporting portion includes a leg support body and leg support surface. The foot supporting portion includes a foot support body and foot support surface. The inflatable device rotates the foot support surface relative to the leg support surface from a first position to a second position. The angle between a leg longitudinal axis and a foot longitudinal axis is less in the second position than in the first position. The method further includes inflating the inflatable device to rotate the foot support surface from the first position to the second position and maintaining the second position to decrease oxygen saturation levels in the patient.

Abstract: Polymer composite photonic crystal materials are disclosed as coatings which have high reflection (>30%) in a specific range of the electromagnetic spectrum, such as ultraviolet (<400 nm), visible (Vis, 400 nm-700 nm), or near-infrared radiation range (NIR, 700-2000 nm), and relatively low reflection (<20% reflection) in a second, different range of the electromagnetic spectrum. Surprisingly, it was found that through a formulation and additives approach, the optical properties of polymer composite photonic crystal films can be selectively modified from a variety of different coating methods, including spray deposition.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a novel biomarker for diagnosing cancer, and a use thereof. STC1, a novel biomarker for diagnosing or predicting the prognosis of cancer according to the present invention, was found to be related to poor prognosis of cancer patients according to the expression level, and was found to be overexpressed in various cancer cell lines. In addition, STC1 was found to be a biomarker related to the proliferation, invasion, and migration (metastasis) of cancer cells. In addition, it was found that STC1 is detected in the serum or urine of bladder cancer patients, and can be effectively used for diagnosing and predicting the prognosis of bladder cancer by identifying differences in expression according to the patient's clinical stage.

A pulsed UV laser is tunable between various energy densities to selectively modify the printed ink or deposition in electrical or physical properties. In one example, radical improvements in electrical conductivity are achieved. In another example, controlled transformation from essentially 2D printed or deposited graphene to surface topology of 3D nanostructures are achieved. The 3D structures are beneficial in such applications as electrochemical sensors of different types and characteristics. In another example, hydrophobicity of the printed or deposited graphene can be manipulated starting from a hydrophilic to super hydrophobic surface.
