Abstract: Disclosed is a high-throughput transcriptional assay format in Actinomycete bacteria, and Streptomyces spp. in particular, that leverages eGFP, inserted both at a neutral site and inside the biosynthetic cluster of interest, as a read-out for secondary metabolite synthesis. Using this approach, a silent gene cluster in Streptomyces albus J1074 was induced. The cytotoxins etoposide and ivermectin were revealed as potent inducers, allowing the isolation and structural characterization of nearly 20 novel small molecule products of the chosen cluster. One of these molecules is a novel antifungal, while several others inhibit a cysteine protease implicated in cancer. Studies addressing the mechanism of induction by the two elicitors led to the identification of a pathway-specific transcriptional repressor that silences the gene cluster under normal growth conditions.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for producing a corrosion inhibiting coating for metal and metal alloy substrates. The coating is comprised of a metal or metal alloy that is similar in composition to the substrate to be coated, further combined with a corrosion inhibiting material. The corrosion inhibiting material may be a refractory metal or metalloid. The method and apparatus for producing the coating allows for the corrosion inhibiting coating to have a supersaturated concentration of the corrosion inhibiting material alloyed with another metal or metal alloy. The method and apparatus allow for the selective vaporization of material sources to make the coating vapor, which are then entrained in a high speed gas flow that directs the coating vapor onto the substrate. Optional plasma assistance and application of a voltage to the substrate may be used. The coating may be customized for a variety of applications.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a use of an agarobiose or agarooligosaccharides having anticariogenic activity. More specifically, a lower concentration of agarobiose or agarooligosaccharides than the concentration of xylitol suppresses the growth of Streptococcus mutans and suppresses acid production, and thus can be used for anti-cariogenic purposes.

Abstract: Devices for controlling movement of aerial buckets via hydraulic systems. Each hydraulic system has valves that control movement of the aerial bucket. A control head of the device has a joystick that is moveable and encoders that detect movement of the joystick. A valve actuator manifold of the device is coupled between the control head and the hydraulic system and supports valve actuators moveably coupled to the valves. Servo drive systems supported by the valve actuator manifold are coupled to the valve actuators and are controllable to move the valve actuators. A processor module of the device is in communication with the encoders and the servo drive systems. The processor module controls the servo drive systems based on input from the encoders such that moving the joystick controls movement of the aerial bucket.

Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a process for acid-catalyzed decomposition of aryl ?-hydroperoxide with a continuous flow tubular reactor. The process is a novel process performed in a tubular reactor, taking the aryl ?-hydroperoxide such as cumene hydroperoxide (CHP) as a raw material and taking acids as a catalyst, performing acid-catalyzed decomposition of the aryl ?-hydroperoxide solution in a short reaction time ranging from tens of seconds to several minutes, thereby obtaining the phenols; wherein an inert component may be filled in the reactor, so that the effects of heat transmission and mass transfer can be enhanced. The aryl ?-hydroperoxide and acid are respectively introduced by a metering pump into a mixing module to be mixed, and then enter the tubular reactor to be reacted so as to produce the products such as phenols.

Abstract: The present disclosure discloses an anti-reflection coating and a method of forming the same. According to one embodiment of the present disclosure, the anti-reflection coating includes a first layer positioned on a substrate to be spaced apart from the substrate by a first distance and a second layer positioned on the first layer to be spaced apart from the first layer by a second distance. In this case, the first and second layers are a metamaterial forming a structural double layer and are realized as an anomalous dispersive medium that does not absorb incident light. The structural double layer may realize spatiotemporal dispersion that varies depending on an incidence angle using the nonlocality of the electromagnetic wave reaction of incident light.
