Abstract: A selective-sorting system for aerosol droplets in human breath includes a mouthpiece to receive a flow of human breath, and a flow path coupled to the mouthpiece. This flow path includes one or more bends that cause the flow of human breath to change direction, which causes aerosol droplets in the flow having different mass-sizes to change direction at different rates. Moreover, the flow path is shaped so that droplets that change direction at different rates are directed to different destinations. The system also includes a collection path, which is coupled to the flow path so that aerosol droplets meeting a specific mass-size criterion are directed into the collection path. A condenser tube is located in the collection path, wherein the condenser tube includes a cooling mechanism that cools the condenser tube to facilitate condensing aerosol droplets to sides of the condenser tube for subsequent collection.

Abstract: Methods, processes, and systems for the manufacture of three-dimensional articles made of polymers using 3D printing are provided. A layer of high performance polymer can be deposited on a build plate to form a powder bed. Then, a solution of a photothermal dye can be printed on the powder bed in a predetermined pattern. Alternatively, the photothermal dye can be added to the entire powder bed. Electromagnetic radiation can be applied, either to the entire bed or in a predetermined pattern, to form the final polymer. After a predetermined period of time, sequential layers are printed to provide the three-dimensional article. The three-dimensional object can be cured to produce the three-dimensional article composed of the final polymers.

Abstract: Conventional dental cements lack certain properties such as the facilitation of optimal re-mineralization. The novel bioactive glass-ionomer dental and bone cement formulations disclosed herein induces mineralization at the in vivo interface and exhibits superior handling properties (shorter setting time) and mechanical properties (improved bond strength to dentin and flexural strength). The present invention presents the first bioactive glass-ionomer dental cement with mineralization power, exhibiting improved bond strength to tooth structure, sharp setting time and superior mechanical strength. Materials of this invention can be used as bone cement, as a dental filling (restorative material), as a liner for deep cavity preparations (to avoid root canal therapies and tooth sensitivity), or as a luting cement to cement dental crowns. Moreover, it can be utilized in a flowable resin for use as a coating to prevent dental caries in their initial steps (white spots).

Abstract: Adaptive windowing of insufficient cyclic prefix (CP) for joint minimization of intersymbol interference (ISI) and adjacent channel interference (ACI) is provided. The proposed subcarrier specific windowing scheme improves the signal-to-interference ratio (SIR) even when the cyclic prefix (CP) is insufficient. Average optimal window lengths depend only on the power density profiles (PDPs), and although instantaneous optimal window lengths depend on users' channel impulse responses (CIRs), fluctuation is little. Therefore, subcarrier specific windowing outperforms fixed windowing, even with outdated window lengths in the case of powerful interferers.

Abstract: In a first SCAPE imaging system, a Powell lens (105) is used to expand light from a light source (100) into a sheet of illumination light. An optical system (125,131,132,140) sweeps the sheet of illumination light through a sample (145), and forms an image at a tilted intermediate image plane (170) from detected return light. A camera (190) captures images of the intermediate image plane. In a second SCAPE imaging system, an optical system (125,131,132,140) sweeps the sheet of illumination light through a sample (145), and forms an image at a tilted intermediate image plane (170) from detected return light. A camera (190) captures images of the intermediate image plane. The detection optics are deliberately misaligned with respect to a true alignment position so that a significant portion of light that would be lost at the true alignment position will arrive at the camera.

Abstract: A system and method for FIB aggregation. FIB Aggregation with Quick Selections (FAQS) is a FIB aggregation algorithm that leverages compact data structures and three unique optimization techniques to quickly and incrementally select next hops when handling route updates. As a result, FAQS can run up to 2.53 and 1.75 times faster for IPv4 and IPv6, respectively, than the optimal FIB aggregation algorithm while achieving a near-optimal aggregation ratio. Meanwhile, it consumes much less memory and generates much smaller number of FIB changes when carrying out frequent updates. The performance enhancement of the new algorithm addresses many concerns from ISPs regarding performance issues, and enhances the probability to push FIB aggregation techniques further to the level of production adoption by the industry.
