  • Patent number: 10392634
Abstract: The present invention provides a method for high-efficiency production of pinoresinol by use of an H2O2 auto-scavenging enzymatic cascade. It uses eugenol as the substrate, which is relatively inexpensive and is industrially available. It uses an enzymatic cascade to remove H2O2 produced in the process of pinoresinol synthesis, thereby reducing its inhibitory effect on the enzyme activity. In addition, the present invention uses whole cells as a catalyst, which can continuously regenerate cofactors needed by the enzyme, thus eliminating the need for exogenous addition of expensive cofactors during the reaction. The yield of the present invention can reach 7.12 g/L and the conversion rate is 61.55%.

  • Patent number: 10392411
Abstract: Described herein is an enzyme-mediated approach to bioconjugation at nanoparticle (NP) surfaces. This process is enabled by a new synthetic linker compatible with the covalent attachment of alkyne modified substrates, including dyes, peptides and nucleic acids. The methods described herein specifically allow for the linkage of molecules to a DNA-functionalized nanoparticle surface. Enzymatic ligation of molecules to the terminal hydroxyl group of DNA using T4 DNA ligase is achieved through incorporation of a single monophosphate on the approaching substrate. In contrast to previous strategies, the linkers disclosed herein are compatible with alkyne modified molecules of a variety of sizes and charges indicating that the ligase minimally requires the monophosphate and the incoming hydroxyl for conjugation to be successful.

  • Patent number: 10393287
Abstract: Various implementations provide an inherently safer design feature for microchannel reactors that provides temperature control at the individual channel level. This approach relies on bimetallic strips embedded within the combustion channel, forming a thermally-actuated “valve”. Bimetallic strips convert a temperature change into a mechanical displacement. Heating the strip increases its deflection and thereby restricts flow in the combustion channels, which consequently reduces the rate of heat generation. The thermally-actuated valve is not limited to use in microchannel reactors and may be used in other structures for which thermally actuated flow control is desired, according to some implementations.
