Abstract: The present application provides a method of fabricating a thin film transistor. The method includes selecting a nano-structure material having a monotonic relationship between a threshold voltage and a channel length when the nano-structure material is formed as a channel part in a thin film transistor; forming an active layer using the nano-structure material; determining a nominal channel length of a channel part of the thin film transistor based on the monotonic relationship and a reference threshold voltage so that the thin film transistor is formed to have a nominal threshold voltage; and forming a source electrode and a drain electrode thereby forming the channel part in the active layer having the nominal channel length.

Abstract: Light Sheet Theta (LS-?) Microscopy achieves large sample imaging capabilities without affecting the imaging depth or the image quality. An optical layout places a detection objective normal to the sample surface, while placing the illumination objectives that generate light sheets at an angle (theta) significantly smaller than 90 degrees. In this configuration, the light sheets enter from same side of the sample as the detection objective. The intersection of the light-sheet and the detection focal plane results in a line illumination-detection profile that is discriminated by a camera.

Abstract: Disclosed is a composition and method for a therapeutic treatment that is able to combat neuroinflammation caused by diseases and disorders such as Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, and traumatic brain injury. The class of urea compounds acts by blocking at targeted receptors in the brain that contribute to the increase in inflammation. Combinations of receptors, H1 receptor, H2 receptor, dopamine transporter (DAT), and/or 5HT3C receptor, are individually and/or collectively inhibited by the same compositions of the present disclosure, and this ability leads to a decrease in brain edema. The DAT inhibitory effects additionally maintains dopamine levels in a patient.

Abstract: A method of making a structural lightweight and thermal insulating concrete is described. The concrete has a coarse aggregate partly replaced by recycled plastic pieces. This enables the concrete to maintain a high compressive strength, low thermal conductivity, and low weight, while providing a use for waste plastic. The waste plastic pieces may comprise polyethylene in the form of flakes, fibers, or granules. Due to its low unit weight, adequate compressive strength and high thermal resistance the developed concrete can be used as a structural lightweight and thermal insulating concrete. The use of this concrete leads to economic and environmental benefits.

Abstract: The purpose of the present invention is to collect a plurality of microscopic objects dispersed in a liquid by light irradiation, and also trap them. A collecting device for bacteria collects a plurality of bacteria dispersed in a sample liquid. The collecting device is provided with a laser beam source that emits laser beam and a honeycomb polymer film constituted so as to be able to hold the liquid. Walls prescribing pores for trapping the plurality of bacteria dispersed in the liquid are formed on the honeycomb polymer film, and also a thin film that includes a material for converting light from the laser beam source to heat is formed on the honeycomb polymer film. The thin film heats the liquid of the sample through the conversion of the laser beam from the laser beam source to heat, thereby causing a convection in the liquid.

Abstract: A heterogeneous material (e.g., a metal-organic framework or “MOF”) is useful for removing heavy metals from a liquid (e.g., water). The heterogeneous material may incorporate a group 16-containing heterocycle supported on solid media. Thiophene-containing MOFs, such as ATF-1 and DUT-67, may be used to remove lead from water. It is postulated that the metal is adsorbed via non-covalent interactions. The systems and methods described herein may also be applicable to other heavy metals. Thus, the applications are not limited to drinking water purification. Instead, the systems and methods may be used for a broad variety of other applications, such as nuclear waste remediation.
