Abstract: A bi-directional antenna includes a plurality of unit cells stacked in two perpendicular planes (Y-X and Z-X planes) to form cube shaped unit cells whereby inductive loops are placed on four faces corresponding to the Y-X and Z-X planes. Each unit cell includes a magnetic permeability enhanced metamaterial. The resulting antenna has the ability to couple magnetic fields oriented in both the X and Y directions with increased permeabilities and can be used to realize a variety of different antenna architectures that do not have their magnetic field confined in a single direction.
Abstract: Disclosed are major allergenic proteins in cashew nut, which are legumin-like proteins and 2S albumins. Also disclosed is a polypeptide allergen in the 7S superfamily, which includes vicilin-like and sucrose binding proteins. Several linear epitopes of the cashew nut are identified and characterized. The invention further discloses the sequence of cDNA encoding the allergenic polypeptide, the allergen being designated Ana o 1, and also describes the characterization of the expressed recombinant polypeptide and associated methods employing the polypeptide.

Abstract: For the thin-film thermo-electric generator and fabrication method of this invention, a P-type thermo-electric thin-film layer, an insulating thin-film layer and a N-type thermo-electric thin-film layer is deposited on a substrate to form a three-layer PN junction, multiple three-layer PN junctions in series are available, an insulating thin-film layer is provided between every to serial three-layer PN junctions, and electrodes are extracted from the substrate and the outermost thin-film layer of the last three-layer thin-film PN junctions.
Abstract: A quantitative method to analyze phase-resolved, raw backscatter echo data or the envelope of phase-resolved, raw backscatter echo data to characterize vitreous inhomogeneities as they relate to normal aging and vitreo-retinal disease. The technique can be applied to 2D or 3D data acquired from the vitreous. The approach provides an objective end value to characterize the vitreous and provide a tool for early diagnosis, monitoring and planning treatment of vitreo-retinal diseases.

Abstract: Mesothelin can be used as an immunotherapeutic target. It induces a cytolytic T cell response. Portions of mesothelin which induce such responses are identified. Vaccines can be either polynucleotide- or polypeptide-based. Carriers for raising a cytolytic T cell response include bacteria and viruses. A mouse model for testing vaccines and other anti-tumor therapeutics and prophylactics comprises a strongly mesothelin-expressing, transformed peritoneal cell line.
Abstract: Contemplated compositions, devices, and methods comprise immunodominant antigens from selected human pathogens (Burkholderia pseudomallei, Borrelia burgdorferi, Brucella melitensis, Chlamydia muridarum, Coxiella burnetii, Francisella tularensis, human Herpes virus 1 and 2, Mycobacterium tuberculosis, Plasmodium falciparum, and Vaccinia virus) can be used as a vaccine, as diagnostic markers, and as therapeutic agents. In particularly preferred aspects, the antigens have quantified and known relative reactivities with respect to sera of a population infected with the pathogen, and have a known association with a disease parameter.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and device for storing data in a flash memory using address mapping for supporting various block sizes. A storage device determines the size of a block that a host system uses on the basis of the size of data that the host system requests and uses the determined block size as a mapping unit. Additionally, the storage device divides a logical address space into at least one area, and maps an address using the minimum units of different mappings in each divided area.
