Abstract: The increasing power density and, therefore, current consumption of high performance integrated circuits (ICs) results in increased challenges in the design of a reliable and efficient on-chip power delivery network. In particular, meeting the stringent on-chip impedance of the IC requires circuit and system techniques to mitigate high frequency noise that results due to resonance between the package inductance and the onchip capacitance. In this paper, a novel circuit technique is proposed to suppress high frequency noise through the use of a hyperabrupt junction tuning varactor diode as a decoupling capacitor for noise critical functional blocks. With the proposed circuit technique, the voltage droops and overshoots on the onchip power distribution network are suppressed by up to 60% as compared to MIM or deep trench decoupling capacitors of the same capacitance.

Abstract: A method for producing a tunnel magnetoresistive element includes a stacking step, then in-magnetic field heating, and then dry etching. The stacking includes stacking a B absorption layer which is in contact with an upper surface of a CoFeB layer. The dry etching includes removal of layers to the B absorption layer. An end of etching is set as an end point time detected by an analysis device when a final layer before the B absorption layer directly above the CoFeB layer is exposed has reduced to a prescribed level, or when the B absorption layer directly above the CoFeB layer has increased to the prescribed level. An amount of over-etching after the end point time is specified in advance, and the B absorption layer is stacked such that the thickness from the prescribed level to the upper surface of the CoFeB layer corresponds to the over-etching amount.

  • Publication number: 20190390985
Abstract: A surface shape determination system includes a surface shape sensor in the form of a flexible and stretchable elastomeric substrate with strain/displacement sensing elements embedded in it. The sensor may be a single-core optical fiber with a series of fiber Bragg Gratings (FBGs) located at predetermined positions along its length. A light source provides an incident light spectrum at one end of the fiber. Each grating of the fiber has index modulation which causes particular wavelengths of the light spectrum that do not satisfy the Bragg condition to be reflected back in the fiber. The refractive index of each grating changes with strain on the substrate due to deflection of it. An interrogator captures the reflected wavelengths and retrieves signal information therefrom. A processor receives the output of the interrogator and performs non-linear regression analysis on the information using a neural network to reconstruct the surface morphology in real-time.

Abstract: Accurate measurements of the sound pressure level require regular calibration of the microphone. Closed-coupler calibration devices are designed to work with laboratory and working standard microphones, but there are numerous microphones with dimensions that do not fit a standard coupler. For example, micro-electro-mechanical system microphones are very small and widely used due to their size, performance, and cost. Described herein is an acoustical coupler that can accommodate microphones of arbitrary cross-sectional shape. The coupler utilizes a flexible membrane that adapts to the shape of the microphone. In contrast to a rigid enclosure, the permeability of the membrane creates an open system that reduces the sensitivity to fit. The precision and accuracy of the device is demonstrated by calibrating a small, oddly shaped microphone using the substitution method.

Abstract: A method named as Magnet Shifting to reduce torque ripple of permanent magnet synchronous motor is disclosed. A way of reasonably choosing the repeating unit of magnetic pole, the shifting ways and the shifting angle calculation of the first and second magnet shifting is described, which are carried on the repeating unit of magnetic poles individually or repeatedly to improve the performance of the motor. The method can be applied to surface, surface-inset and inner-embedded permanent magnet motors, which can reduce torque ripple caused by different torque components, including cogging torque, reluctance torque or permanent magnet torque. It also can quickly calculate the shifting angle of the magnetic pole by choosing repeating unit reasonably. Magnet shifting can effectively enhance the sinusoidal degree of back electrodynamic force (back-EMF) waveform, where the repeating units can offset the torque ripple between the maximum and the minimum value to reduce the different torque harmonics.
