  • Patent number: 10324034
Abstract: A self-referencing localized plasmon resonance sensing device and a system thereof are disclosed. The reference optical waveguide element is modified with a noble metal nanoparticle layer. The sensing optical waveguide element is modified with a noble metal nanoparticle layer, which is further modified with a recognition unit. The incident light is guided into the reference and the sensing optical waveguide elements to respectively generate localized plasmon resonance sensor signals. The reference and the sensing optical waveguide elements respectively have a calibration slope. The processor utilizes the calibration slopes to regulate the second difference generated by detecting with the sensing optical waveguide element. The processor utilizes a difference between the first difference, which is generated by detecting with the reference optical waveguide element, and the regulated second difference to obtain a sensor response.

  • Patent number: 10327123
Abstract: A system and method for Machine-to-Machine (M2M) communication over a transmission medium, including a novel random access protocol that is easy to implement, energy efficient, scalable and compatible with the limited-power and low complexity requirements of IoT devices. The proposed protocol utilizes a form of multiple hypothesis testing at the IoT gateway to determine the number of active IoT devices operating in the transmission medium to optimize the power levels of a Successive Interference Cancellation (SIC) receiver in order to distinguish between signals transmitted from different IoT devices on the same time and frequency. The use of beamforming exploits the power and spatial domains without excessively increasing the SIC power levels and address channel access delay problems by reducing the probability of collision and consequently lowering the average back-off delay.

Abstract: A method for estimating parameters of a direct current machine by Laplace transform performed by a computer system. The method includes establishing a transient model of the DC machine and a transfer function based on the transient mode; transforming the transfer function from the time domain to the frequency domain by the Laplace transform to obtain each of an armature current and a rotational speed of the DC machine as a function of frequency; expressing the armature current and the rotational speed as polynomial fractions by polynomial regression, and comparing the functions of the frequency and the polynomial fractions to output values of the armature resistance, the armature inductance, the back electromotive force constant, the moment of inertia and the friction coefficient. As such, the accuracy and operational efficiency in estimating the parameters of the DC machine can be improved.

  • Patent number: 10322251
Abstract: A multi-night titration (MNT) process to find an optimal single therapeutic pressure of a CPAP device. This single therapeutic pressure can then be used on an on-going basis by the patient after the titration period. The MNT process differs from current auto adjusting processes used for titration (or ongoing use) in that the MNT process does not respond locally by adjusting pressures to individual events. With existing devices, the continuous adjustment of supplied air pressure always responds to one or a small number of events and thus fails to compensate for a patient's adaptation thereto, resulting in the supply of a less than optimal therapeutic pressure to the patient. While auto adjusting processes often capture and respond well to short-term and transient conditions, the MNT process of the current disclosure seeks to capture long term trends and find the most suitable average single pressure for a patient.
