Abstract: The present invention discloses a wavelength modulation heterodyne light source, which comprises: a modulation unit, a wavelength modulated light source and a birefringent crystal. The modulation unit produces a triangular or sine wave modulating signal, and transmits the modulating signal to the wavelength modulated light source to generate a wavelength modulated light signal, then the modulated light signal is refracted by the birefringent crystal with two different optical paths caused by the two different refractivity of the crystal to generate a heterodyne light. With the application of the present invention, the heterodyne light source can be made to a relatively small size and save much cost compared with known heterodyne light sources at present.

Abstract: Methods and systems for mapping cardiac fibrillation in a patient include deploying a catheter in the patient's heart, wherein the catheter includes an array of at least one stacked electrode pair having a first electrode and a second electrode. Each electrode pair is configured to be orthogonal to the surface of a cardiac tissue substrate. A plurality of measurements are obtained from the electrode array in response to electrical activity in the cardiac tissue substrate for a duration indicative of a number of electrical circuit cores and distribution of the electrical circuit cores across the cardiac tissue substrate in the patient's heart. These are processed to obtain the density and distribution of electrical circuit cores which are mapped onto a representation of the patient's heart.

Abstract: A thin high strength polymer based self-reinforced composite (SRC) made from a biocompatible and commonly used orthopedic implant material is interposed between the hard connections of the modular taper interface of an orthopedic implant. A thick film of this ultra high strength SRC with the fibers oriented to maximally resist the fretting motion and wear, can be interposed between the modular components to result in a relatively soft, non-conducting interposed layer that will prevent contact between hard interfaces and reduce or eliminate the oxide film abrasion associated with this mechanism. Alternatively, the SRC may be formed using surface control methods resist fretting, such as by using sticky-compliant surfaces and channels for fluid, among others.
